I'm really excited about today's post because it's all about lipsticks! Shanghai Suzy is a newly launched Australian company bringing affordable quality lipsticks to the market. Today I'll be talking you through each of the shades and what I think of the two formulations available. Tomorrow I'll be posting an interview with Joanna the founder of Shanghai Suzy so check back in to learn more about the amazing new brand!
Shanghai Suzy is a lipstick-only brand that do not test on animals or contain any animal-derived ingredients which I think is fantastic. The company launched in August 2013 with a spring-summer collection containing eight amazing shades. All of the lipsticks have an incredible scent which when I first opened one I thought smelt like Hubba Bubba and funnily enough when I was reading the website the scent was actually inspired by Grape Hubba Bubba. How amazing!?!?!
The two formulations included in this range are 'matte' and 'nourish'.
The matte shades are long-lasting, creamy and thick but I find them to be one of the most comfortable matte lipsticks I've ever tried. They are super creamy and allow you to apply them straight out of the bullet which I usually can't do with the likes of Mac matte shades. You can also press your lips together to help apply the product which again is not something I can usually do with other matte lipsticks. I think if you're after a long-lasting lip shade that won't be overly drying or feel cakey than these are a fantastic option.
The nourish option took me by surprise mainly because other nourishing lipsticks are usually really sheer. These contain jojoba seed oil to help moisturise the lips which I do find helps if you're having a dry lip day but still want a bit of colour on the lips. The formulation of these won't cling to any of those dry bit and they feel amazing to wear. I found that these are incredibly opaque which I didn't expect. They do have a slight sheen and aren't as long lasting as the matte shades but they don't lack pigmentation at all which is a huge plus for a nourishing lipstick!
Onto the shades available in this range. I was really impressed with the range of shades, there is a fantastic nude, some mid tone shades and then some really vivid on-trend ones as well.
'Miss Sally' Watermelon: This shade has been one of my most reached for from the range. It's a matte finish which I love and is really easy to wear especially at this time of the year. It has a slight coral feel to it and can be sheered out or built up for a real pop of colour.
'Miss Emma' Taupe: This shade has really surprised me because I hate nudes usually. This is a nourish formula which is super creamy and a dream to apply. I thought because it was described as 'taupe' it wouldn't work for me so I did put it aside for a few days too scared to try it but once I braved it I couldn't believe how flattering it was. It's won me over completely so if you're scared of nude lips like me try this!
'Miss Sanja' Fuchsia: Fuchsia shades and me go hand in hand so I love this one. It's a matte finish which again can be sheered out easily or built up for a bright pop.
'Miss Jade' Orange: If you've seen this post you'll know up till recently I was so scared of the orange lip trend. I now love it and can't get enough of bright orange lips! This is a matte finish and I highly recommend finding an orange lipliner if you're going to grab this one because it can be hard to get a crisp line but it's beautiful and affordable if you're wanting to try out the trend :)
'Miss Claire' Fire Engine Red: This pulls more orange on me but I've included a lip swatch and a normal one on my arm so you can see how it differs. Again a matte formula which I love and this one would be perfect for people who don't think red lips suit them because there is that orange undertone which is super flattering- especially on blondes!
'Miss Brooklyn' Rose: This is a beautiful nourish formula that is subtle and really wearable. I worn this when I've done a smokey eye make up and it balanced the look well. This type of shade is a staple.
'Miss Hannah' Blood Red: I am slightly disappointed with this shade. It is a nourish formula which isn't the problem it's the fact it's soooo creamy and pigmented! If applied with a lip brush instead of directly out of the tube there would be more control and allow you to create a crisp line which I struggled with getting straight from the bullet. Perhaps the most high maintenance and 'fiddly' shade from the collection but the colour is gorgeous once applied. It's not a 'grab and go' one though.
Miss Georgina' Pink Plum: Another nourish formula which I have been loving! I really like the balance of this shade between pink and plum. This would be perfect if you're wanting to try out plum lips but are a little bit scared as it offers a little pink to lessen the intensity. A gorgeous shade.
My favourites shades at the moment are Miss Sally, Miss Emma and Miss Georgina because they're all unique to my collection and are not shades I'd usually buy for myself but are ones I've really enjoyed trying out. I think that Shanghai Suzy have nailed the collection offering something for everyone. Both of the finishes are a dream to apply and wear throughout the day. I think the concept of offering on-trend shades at an affordable price on the Australian market is amazing and I will be keeping an eye out for the next collection that's for sure!
Tomorrow I'll posting be posting an interview I have done with the beautiful founder of Shanghai Suzy Joanna - keep an eye out for it in the morning! It's alot of fun and I always love hearing about the faces behind brands so I hope you guys enjoy it too!
