ALDER DRY SHAMPOO

✎ Tuesday, 1 April 2014
I was recently contacted by the lovely Pearl from Miss Pearl Store asking if I wanted to review the Alder New York Hair Powder* and I jumped at the opportunity. I recently read Kat's post featuring the SW Basics of Brooklyn Make Up Remover which is a product Pearl also sells so I was keen too try out some of the beautiful products available via the online boutique.

Miss Pearl Store is an Australian store that aims to provide consumers with a one-stop destination for natural products. A range of brands are available too purchase online like Crazy Rumours Lip Balms, Manic Hair Dye, Scotch Naturals Nail Polish (nail post coming soon), Jar Body Scrubs and Milk & Co. I'd highly recommend checking out the store because it is seriously so beautiful and I wish I could buy everything Pearl stocks!

Alder New York Hair Powder* is a hair powder made in the USA of only natural ingredients including; rice powder, kaolin clay, organic horsetail powder and essential oils. I'm not a huge ingredients reading junkie but I actually am familiar of all those included which is refreshing for me. I like it. It's also free from talc, parabens, sulfates, formaldehyde and there is no testing on animals. I'm not hugely concerned about those things but it's worth noting if you're sensitive too talc which I know alot of people are.

The scent of this particular powder is lavender but it is also available in bergamot and eucalyptus. I'm not a huge fan of lavender but luckily it doesn't linger so I can see past that. Essentially this product is a dry shampoo in powder form so it's perfect for when you don't want to wash your hair or if you just want some added texture and volume. Application is a little tricky because of the packaging. I've found dispensing about half a teaspoon into your finger tips then working it in is the easiest way to apply. It's a dream to work into the hair and absorbs the oils well.

Overall this is a gorgeous product. Everything from the packaging too the way it quickly brings your hair back to life - it's amazing. I think this is something I would treat myself to in the future because of how little you need to use too get the same results as a dry shampoo spray but perhaps I'll opt for a different scent in the future. It's turning those everyday rituals into something special and I think it's nice to glamourise those tasks, like masking dirty hair, every now and then.

  6. Oh god, that packaging..

I'm not sure I'd have the patience for it though, I have a hard enough time with the dry shampoos in a can as it is!

  7. The packaging is pretty, but I can see how application would be a little meh. Otherwise it sounds like a great product. Personally, I haven't tried a dry shampoo before so I don't even know what to expect hehe.
