THE BALM HOW 'BOUT THEM APPLES

✎ Wednesday, 2 July 2014
One of the most exciting new releases that has landed on my doorstep is this new palette. The Balm How 'Bout Them Apples* is a gorgeous selection of cream colours that can be used on either your lips or cheeks. A fun fact about me is that I've never actually owned a blush palette of any kind so I was excited to have a selection of shades to play around with particularly ones that I may not purchase individually.

Typical of The Balm the packaging is cute and fun but also extremely compact with a big mirror so if you're a blush addict that just can't decide what shades to pack when travelling this would be perfect. I'm a big fan of cream blushes so it was nice to try out a few different shades and a new formulation. All the colours are unique with one boasting some shimmer whilst the others just being cream finishes. The formulation is beautiful and allows you enough time after dabbing on the cheeks to blend out which is something I've had trouble with when using other cream blushes. Once set the colours a long-lasting on the skin alone or layered with a blush. On the lips they provide a sheer wash of colour but can be quite drying, a typical characteristic of dual purpose products, but that's easily fixed with layering a lip balm underneath or on top. I'm not a fan of the shimmer shade on the lips but that's just down to personal preference I guess.
Cider | Cobbler | Pie | Crisp | Candy | Caramel

Cider: a beautiful light peachy shade that comes off quite natural on the cheeks so it's perfect for no-make up days when you want a subtle flush. This is one of my favourite shades on the lips mixed with a lip balm for everyday.

Cobbler: the brightest shade in the palette and it packs a punch but on the cheeks it's surprisingly easy to blend. I really like wearing this on both the cheeks and lips for a little coordination (post coming soon on that)

Pie: this is my typical blush shade I always gravitate towards. It looks beautiful with any eye look and very wearable.

Crisp: this is my least favourite shade in the palette purely based on the high amount of shimmer throughout. On cheeks it's not as noticeable but I don't like it on the lips.

Candy: similar to 'Pie' but more cool toned - still really easy to wear.

Caramel: this is not something I would ever buy but I'm telling you it's seriously stunning on the cheeks. It adds dimension but colour all at once so it's great if you don't feel like doing bronzer and blush. On the lips it's a darker nude but I do like it.

What do you think of the newest addition to The Balm's palette line up?

  3. Packaging alone.. big thumbs up!! :) Don't they look yummy! (The blushes, not the men! Okay, maybe the men too!!) Love the 6 shades in one palette all with dual purpose. Pie and Caramel would both probably be my favourites too.

  9. I love cream blushes but I'm not sure I'll buy this because I like to layer my blush, cream topped with a powder for lasting power.

  10. This is absolutely adorable. I totally agree with you in that this palette would encourage me to try colours that I wouldn't generally go for. I am not going to lie... pretty jealous!

  12. This is such a cute palette! But sadly I'm not big on the creams so I'd probably not use this a lot. So pretty though! xx

  13. What a beautiful selection of colours. I'm not sure I would use these on lips, I prefer my lip colour in the form of lipstick (or liquid lipstick). The colour Cider is absolutely lovely. Cobbler looks quite scary, I can't wait to see what you do with it :)

  16. I've seen this around and I think it's great for those whose skin tones vary greatly in between seasons. We only have two: hot and hotter, (haha) so I don't really see the need of getting one for myself.

  18. I adore this. I'm the biggest fan of The Balm. I love their adorable packing, quirky names and of course the formula of their products. This looks like a very exciting blush palette, and I must admit I'm having a bit of a giggle at the muscular men next to the apples ;)
