I've always struggled with finding foundations that last on my combination/oily skin and it's been a long journey to find a little selection of foundations that really work well for me. Combination/oily skin types can be hard because you can have both dry patches as well being prone to get oily throughout the day. I thought it was about time I shared my top 6, because I couldn't narrow it down to five, that really work. I hope this helps some of you that have been struggling with finding a foundation that stay put throughout the day.
L'OREAL INFALLIBLE 24HR FOUNDATION*
I wear the shade 'Golden Beige' on the first 2 days of fake tan.
This is the newest one to my most loved and a surprising one as I've never had much luck with L'oreal foundations. The Infallible line has had a revamp and the relaunched products, in my opinion, are some of the best to be released this year. The foundation claims to be long-lasting in a 'fights make up meltdown' kinda way. In all seriousness it is a really fantastic foundation. The coverage is medium but buildable and set with a powder I typically only have to touch up once in an eight hour day. I find with this foundation it does transfer so if you're prone to touching your face alot be warned this will transfer. I currently only own my fake tan shade but I will definitely be purchasing a lighter shade for everyday.
MAXFACTOR LUMINIZER FOUNDATION*
I wear the shade 'Light Ivory' as a winter shade and 'Natural' as an everyday shade.
I nearly didn't mention this one however it's currently my most worn foundation so I couldn't pass it by. If you're combination/oily but you still want a luminous finish this is the foundation for you too try because it allows for you to have that gorgeous luminous whilst still holding up really well throughout the day. I do have to touch this up once throughout an eight hour day but for me it's worth it because of the gorgeous finish this gives the skin. Although I do adore my Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation this is really on the same level, so much so I would consider repurchasing this over the LM in the future (shock horror). I cannot recommend this enough!
REVLON COLORSTAY FOUNDATION
I wear the shade 'Buff' for everyday.
This is probably the best known affordable foundation for combination/oily skin. My Mum wore this when I was younger and it's the first foundation I ever bought with my own money - of course swayed by the fact that my Mum wore it. This gives a medium/full coverage and can be built quite easily without caking. A lot of people complain that this can be cakey on the skin but I find if you do light layers then you won't have a problem because I've personally never had one. The problem I have had in the past is the foundation setting fairly quickly so I wouldn't recommend dotting this on your face before blending because chances are you'll end up with a splotch mark left behind. This is the best foundation in terms of longevity and I rarely have to touch this up so it's one I pull out when it's boiling hot or need my make up to last without touch ups!
LAURA MERCIER OIL-FREE SUPREME FOUNDATION
I wear the shade 'Warm Ivory' for everyday.
This one is one I've continually repurchased after receiving a press sample last year when it first released in Australia. I typically reserve this for summer because the formulation has the tendency to cling to dry patches which I get in the winter time so I'm excited to be able to wear this again as the weather heats up. This is one I don't have to touch up in an 8 hour day but typically I do at lunch (I'm a creature of habit). This offers a soild medium coverage but it's one you can't really build up because it's dry so it can cake. I apply this with a beauty blender as I find it the easiest thing to help blend the oil-free formula. I know it doesn't sound like the most amazing foundation after all that but it has beautiful coverage, satin finish and it's long-lasting. It's also a great mixing foundation! I regularly mix this with my Silk Creme.
COVERGIRL OUTLAST STAY FAULOUS 2-IN-1 FOUNDATION
I wear the shade 'Creamy Natural' for day 3 onwards of fake tanning.
I do aboustely adore the wear of this foundation and I think it's incredible for combination oily skin but I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with not only the colour range but also the way these foundation oxidise on the skin - badly! It took me two bottles and a whole lot of mixing to find shades that don't turn pink or really dark and I still haven't found a shade that's light enough for me without fake tan on. Putting that aside and the foundation is actually amazing in terms of longevity and coverage which is exactly what I look for in a foundation. The consistency is also a really notable factor that I enjoy - it's super thin whilst still offering a good medium coverage. It's a great reliable foundation IF you can find your shade in the limited selection.
ARBONNE PERFECTING LIQUID FOUNDATION*
I wear the shade 'Buff' for everyday.
This one is a little bit more pricey like the Laura Mercier but I'm a big believer in spending on bases because you wear them everyday and a shitty base can make or break your whole make up look. This one is very light in consistency and also offer a generous medium coverage. I love how this feel very light on the skin and it doesn't take much to work the product in so it's a great one to slap on and go if you're running late. I know alot of people have alot of luck with this lasting well on their skin but I find I do have to touch up one throughout the day (which isn't an issue for me). Another gorgeous foundation worth looking into. I found that the shade selection on the Arbonne site was made easy with their descriptions too so that's all a win!

I actually haven't tried any of these, thanks for the recommendations x
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on the CG foundation, I wish they have more shades. The Loreal foundation seems promising, I will have to give it a go next :)

I've never tried any of these foundations, but I'm due for a new one and bored with the one I have so one of these may very well be in my next shopping basket. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThis is great advice! I have found that the Revlon Colorstay was awfully cakey on me, but going on this I think I will dig it out again and try lighter layers! Fantastic post x

Great picks, love the Arbonne Foundation! The L'oreal foundation sounds like one I need to look more into as I love a medium coverage base.

Great post Sarah! Definitely picked up some recs since I have the same skin type :) Everyone's been raving about the new L'oreal foundation! It does sound very promising. I also really want to try the Covergirl one since everyone seems to love it too. I have the Arbonne one and really adore it! It lasts super well on me, but sadly the shade is too light so I have to mix it :(

I've been interested in trying both the Revlon and Covergirl shades, and I think I will definitely try and pick up the Revlon one but am now wondering about the Covergirl. I hate when foundations oxidise so easily - looking at you, MAC Studio Fix. If it's cheap enough, I might see if I can find a colour to match me!

Great post, I love Laura Mercier too.
ReplyDeleteI have used Revlon Colorstay for photoshoots and it comes up flawless. I can't wear full coverage foundations everyday but I do adore this one for nights out. I have oily skin and i find, surprisingly, Rimmel Match Perfection a godsend for a light coverage and set with Australis Fresh and Flawless.
Have you tried Maybellines Better Skin? I have been trialing it recently and so far so good :)

I love No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation, best I've ever tried for oil skin :)
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Revlon Colorstay foundation some months back and it became my favourite foundation for winter!!! But this year I also want to try the L'Oreal Lumi Magique foundation, for a dewy look too! :D

I have been meaning to get the CG foundation for the longest time but I'm a little skeptical to as what shade I'm going be in! I've narrowed it down to two shades but ugh! so unsure, esp with the oxidising factor! Loving these combo posts :)
