APRIL FAVOURITES 2014

For hair it's been all about some more affordable products this month. I've been adoring the Wella Pro Series 1 Minute Intense Moisturising Mask* in place of my regular conditioner. I love how it only needs a minute to deeply penetrate the hair and inject some serious moisture. It's perfect for a quick fix especially as the weather is cooling down. Out of the shower I'm applying the De Lorenzo Allevi8  Anti-Frizz Shine Serum* to help tame my frizz-prone locks. I rub a small amount in my palms then work it throughout my hair. It doesn't leave any residue behind but does an amazing job to smooth down any crazy bits. Last up is the Indola Wonder Treatment* which I use as my detangler on damp hair. This is the best detangler I've used in a long time AND it smells amazing. I don't think I could ask for anything more!

Wella Pro Series 1 Minute Intense Moisturising Mask* RRP $6.95 here
De Lorenzo Allevi8 Anti-Frizz Shine Serum* RRP $14.95 on sale $9.95 here
Indola Wonder Treatment* RRP $17.95 on sale $14.95 here
As some of you may know I've been sick in bed for the past week so my skincare has been minimal but I've made sure to religiously apply the Kosmea Skin Clinic Rosehip Oil*. I've spoken about it so many times but it does wonders for hydration and it's helped the flakey skin around my nose. Along the same lines the Lanolips 101 Ointment has been keeping my lips smooth and crack free. This is really a holy grail multipurpose ointment for me and if you haven't tried it you need too! I reviewed a few Dermalogica products last week and I'm still loving all three however the Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing All Over Toner* is the standout for me. It's been a while since I've used a treatment toner so I'm enjoying the extra step.

Kosmea Skin Clinic Rosehip Oil* RRP $24.95 here
Lanolips 101 Ointment RRP $17.95 here
Dermalogica Clear Start Breakout Clearing All Over Toner*$20.68 here
I went to a few events this month and I was particularly fond of Mac 'Heaux' on my lips. It offers a beautiful deep berry colour with a matte finish meaning it lasts all night. I won't dwell on how amazing it is because it was limited edition but I couldn't do a favourites without mentioning it. An old favourite, Maxfactor Clump Defy Mascara*, has jumped back into my routine and it really is one of the best mascaras I've ever used.

For base I've been really struggling to find something I enjoy wearing because my skin is so bad at the moment, I feel as though nothing is looking 'right'. The Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream has impressed me for days when I'm not wanting too much coverage. It's light, blendable and lasts on my skin. I'm going to talk more about this soon but I've been really enjoying it! Lastly is a surprising one for me. I originally hated Mac Soft and Gentle I thought it was too disco ball like and chunky. After using it for the past few weeks it's become a fantastic for a dramatic highlight.

Maxfactor Clump Defy Mascara* RRP $24.95 here
Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream RRP $16.95 here
Mac Soft and Gentle RRP $47 here

MY NEW BEST FRIEND

IMG_2210
The past two weeks has been crazy with the combination of the flu, bad eating and hormonal breakouts let's just say my skin has been extremely spotty. Luckily, Clinique sent over the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel* which I've become quite dependent on.

The new addition to the Clinique anti-blemish line boasts a 4-in-1 Clearing Complex - that pretty much means that it has four different problems associated with blemishes it's going to help treat or reduce. For the blemishes and exfoliation it contains Salicylic Acid that will take away dead skin cells and clear up spots. For oil control, Laminaria Sacharina to help with lowering production of oil. Lastly, sea whip extract to reduce surface redness and comfort the skin. It also is recommended to either use a small amount all over the face followed up by a moisturiser or as a spot treatment.
It all sounds pretty nifty right?

At first I was a little unsure about it because I've tried some products from the Anti-Blemish line and they've been quite harsh for my skin however after playing around with this product for a little while it is a real gem if applied sparingly. This may be oil-free but it does contain alcohol so I find it is best applied before any moisturising products to ensure that it won't dry out the area. I take an ever-so-small amount on my finger and dab it over the problem areas before going in with rose-hip oil along with whatever moisturiser I'm using. I tend to only use this at night because I generally don't use spot treatments under make up but that's not to say it can't be.

Overall I'm impressed with the new addition to the Clinique Anti-Blemish line. It is the most effective treatment I've personally found and I can see myself repurchasing in the future. I wouldn't recommend this if you don't have some serious skin issues happening because it is potent stuff but if you're looking for something to help acne/breakouts this is a winner and well worth the spend.

15ml RRP $32
30ml RRP $48

PAINT MY LIPS

✎ Monday, 28 April 2014
24 Comments
I'm a huge fan of the liquid lipstick trend so when these super affordable Ulta3 Lip Paints* released to say I was excited would be a complete understatement - I couldn't contain myself! Brands like Stila, Hourglass and Rimmel have all had their turn at releasing amazing hybrids but move on over because these bad boys retail for a measly $5.95 a piece! These are designed to have the application of a gloss, longevity of a lipstick whilst being enriched with the goodness of vitamin E to help retain plump moisturised lips.
The applicator is pretty standard compared to other liquid lipsticks offering a small well in the centre for the product to pool. I personally don't love this feature because I find it hard to get an even coat in one swipe. I feel as though it distributes a lot of product right off the bat which you're then left to spread around. Luckily this particular formulation doesn't set instantly so it's easy to spread around the lips.
Loud Purple | Radical Red | Extreme Pink | Expressive Fuchsia | Electric Orange | Manic Mauve
As for the formulation of this affordable lip product I'm impressed but not blown away. These are extremely pigmented but I find during application they can apply patchy therefore requiring a little more attention to ensure that your lips are fully coated in the colour. The wear of these isn't particularly long lasting but offers wear time similar of a regular lipstick so that's fine. In all honesty, I didn't expect an all-day stain from such an affordable product. The range offers everything from a loud purple to a wearable everyday mauve, I think that the colour range is perfect.

*my 'Electric Orange' was misspelt on the bottle that is why it's misspelt on the above photo ;)

Overall I do love these and think that they're amazing quality for the price. I think that these are just as good as the offering from Rimmel and they are worth trying out especially if you're unsure about how particular tones will look with your colourings.

Have you snapped up any of these Lip Paints? What are your favourite shades?

SHOP SAVVY SUNDAYS: LUXE FRAGRANCE

✎ Sunday, 27 April 2014
10 Comments
The much loved Shop Savvy Sundays is back after a few weeks break! I have some incredible stores coming up in the next few weeks so I'm excited to share them all with you. Today I'm giving you all the details about Luxe Fragrances which is an upcoming Australian beauty boutique that launched at the beginning on 2014. Although the store is relatively only a baby Luxe is already stocking selected 'theBalm' products; Rosebud Perfume Co, St Tropez, OPI and Sigma Beauty with more brands to be added to the works in the coming months. A large portion of the store is also fragrance with a HUGE selection of designer brands.

The lovely owner Kollyann sent over two products including the much loved Smith's Rosebud Salve. I've always wanted to try however never been able to access the brand at affordable pricing. It's a gorgeous thick multi-purpose balm that is so worth the hype! I would recommend it along with everyone else that already adores it.

What inspired owner Kollyann to launch Luxe Fragrances?
'Luxe Fragrances was created one day when I was casually online shopping. I was frustrated at the fact that I wasn't able to easily purchase makeup and beauty products from overseas without having to pay for ridiculous shipping fees! As a makeup fanatic, I knew that I had to do something as I'm sure that most women in Australia was also feeling this frustration. Our mission for the near future is to also stock brands that are only seen in the overseas market and something that you don't generally purchase here in stores.'

Luxe Fragrances may be only in it's earlier days but it's definitely one to watch out for! Make sure you follow Luxe over on social media so you can keep up-to-date on the latest brands to hit the store and any sales that are happening.

JUST LIKE HEAVEN

✎ Friday, 25 April 2014
10 Comments
You all know how I adore supporting local brands so when I was asked if I wanted to try and possibly feature a nail varnish from Australian brand Scout Cosmetics I couldn't say no! Scout Cosmetics offer a range of mineral make up, natural haircare and skincare as well as the new nail polishes. Founder Sylvie Hutchings is a true inspiration and her story is worth the read. These nail polishes are all formulated without any nasties like formaldehyde, DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor or Parabens. Amazingly these are all made in Australia!

The colour I'm wearing is 'Just Like Heaven', a beautiful sheer baby pink. I'm usually an opaque nail girl but I adore the hint of colour and shine it gives my nails. The formulation is smooth and dries quickly however to get a fully opaque colour it does take 3-4 coats with this particular shade. Luckily, I adore the perfect wash of colour it gives my nails and how it allows my natural nails to still be visible.

Trying this polish has made me very excited about the brand and I'm looking forward to trying more products from the line.

Do you like the sheer wash of colour?

RRP $19.95 available on Scout Cosmetics

THE NATURAL HAIR TRIO

✎ Thursday, 24 April 2014
6 Comments
I've previously raved about the Karpati Pore Refining Clay Mask which was a very surprising find via a beauty subscription box. Since then, I've been trying out a few more products from the range including a trial pack of their haircare products. I would describe myself as a bit of a haircare snob, I only like to use the best of the best so I was a little sceptical to see how these 'no frill' products performed.

This trio boasts 97%-99% natural ingredients. They also contain no mineral oil; silicones, sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium laureth sulphate, pva/pvp, MIT, glycols, parabens, phthalates, formaldehydes, animal by-products, harsh synthetics or preservatives. If I'm honest alot of those things I'm not really aware what they are however I completely appreciate how these products are derived from 100% natural ingredients and leave out all those nasties other haircare products may contain.

The shampoo and conditioner duo work perfectly together. To my surprise, the shampoo lathers well however I do find doing a double cleanse is best to get a deep clean. The conditioner is hydrating and detangles which is exactly what I want from a good quality conditioner. As for the hair repair cream it's perfect for keeping your hair from going frizzy and offers protection from chlorine or sun exposure. I've been mixing it with my hair oil and it's the perfect addition to my routine.

Overall I've been really impressed with the superior quality that this trio has to offer. All these products are suitable for anyone with sensitives like dry, flaky or itchy scalps and also for children. I would highly recommend these to anyone needing or wanting a more natural hair routine.

WHAT'S ON MY FACE #4: MAXFACTOR EDITION

✎ Wednesday, 23 April 2014
31 Comments
Maxfactor is one of my favourite affordable brands. There is a certain nostalgia linked with the likes of the blush in 'Classic Rose' being the first blush I ever purchased and the mascara range being my long time favourite. When this bunch of Maxfactor products landed on my desk I was beyond excited because it has been a brand I've always loved so putting together a feature with their products was a little extra special for me.
Comparable to the Covergirl Out-Last Stay Fabulous foundation, if not identical, the Maxfactor FaceFinity is a fantastic affordable base. I love the medium coverage, texture and lasting powder. The drawn back is that the foundation oxidises on the skin so I'm finding it hard to find the ideal shade for my pale complexion. Layering blushes is my new favourite thing to do. Here I've layered the dark 'Mulberry' shade with 'Classic Rose'. I love the dimension it gives the face with contouring.

The single eyeshadows are new to me but so incredible! They're pigmented, soft, blendable and easily some of the best affordable eyeshadows on the market. Some of mine were damaged when they were posted out however I would not hesitate in purchasing more. As for the Clump Defy Mascara I've sung it's praises over and over again - it's fantastic for volume and definition with zero clumps.

Liquid liner is something I haven't mastered yet and this eyeliner I'm really on the fence about it. I like how it removes it chunks so it's easy to fix any mistakes but I find the applicator a little stiff and not as fine as I would like. I'll make sure I update you all in the future but so far I'm not too sure.

BACK TO THE BASICS

✎ Tuesday, 22 April 2014

I'm guilty of overcomplicating my skincare routine every now and then. Constantly trying new products means that it's easy to have a complex routine or one that is changing too frequently. My skin finally had enough and decided to cry for help by breaking out so I've stripped everything back to basics and these three Dermalogica Clear Start products are the core foundations of my routine.

My night time cleanser is usually a fairly heavy duty so the Breakout Clearing Foaming Wash* fits the bill perfectly. A thicker gel consistency offers a deep cleanse without being striping or harsh on the skin. I wear Revlon Colorstay, we all know how well that hangs around, and this product has no trouble at all breaking it down. Formulated with blemish fighting ingredients like salicylic acid and tea tree it's designed to deeply clean pores whilst also preventing future breakouts. It is recommended to use this morning and night however I prefer to opt for something more moisturising in the morning.

Morning and night I'm spraying my face with the Breakout Clearing All Over Toner*. Generally I'm not a fan of spray toners but the formulation is beautiful and refreshing so it can be forgiven. This is designed to purify the skin and offer a helping hand in controlling oils. It does have salicylic acid in it but it's not harsh at all on the skin. I love how gentle and refreshing this is and I feel like it's a nice way to energise the skin especially in the mornings.

I enjoy a matte moisturiser in the morning so the Oil Clearing Matte Moisturiser* is the perfect way to the start the day. This has SPF15 which I appreciate because previously I had been using a separate SPF to my moisturiser. The formulation of this is extremely light and matte so if you're not a combination/oily skin type you won't love this moisturiser like I do. This allows me to still moisturise my skin but not worry that I've overloaded it before applying make up. I generally don't bother with a primer when using this because I know it's reliable and will help control my oils.

This range is perfect if you're a teenager needing a basic routine or someone who is just looking to incorporate some more 'no frill' type products. Deramlogica don't use any artificial fragrances, dyes or mineral oils so they're fantastic products to be using and I know I'll continue to in the future.

What are your 'no frill' skincare basics?

EVERYDAY MAKE UP BAG

✎ Monday, 21 April 2014
21 Comments
I received this adorable Apple & Bee cosmetic bag as a gift and it's become quite a beloved edition to my collection. For all the fellow nosey people, I thought I'd put together a post on the bits I carry around everyday. Warning: I only carry the basics.

BRUSHES Real Techniques Retractable Bronzer Brush* & Retractable Lip Brush*
These are my favourite addition to my make up bag because they're so hygienic. Previous to having these I kept a small kabuki brush loose in my bag however I had to wash it so frequently. These are fuss free, clean and so convenient to have on hand. The bronzer brush I actually use for powder and the lip brush I've been using for touching up any lip colour that may be wearing unevenly.
Available from The Beauty Office

POWDER Physicians Formula Super BB Powder
A repurchase especially for my handbag which is kind of a big deal. This powder has a little bit of coverage but it amazing for applying over make up throughout the day because it doesn't cake up on the skin at all.

HAND CREAM Premium Spa SOS Hand Cream*
I try to always have a hand cream in my bag incase my hands start to feel dry throughout the day. I really love this one from Premium Spa because of the cute size. It does leave a bit of a residue on the skin but the nourishment and softness it leaves behind makes it forgivable.

LIP TREATMENTS Aurora Spa Rituals Lip Moisturiser & Maybelline Baby Lips
I prefer to have a treatment on hand that will help with chapped lips along with a tinted balm if I've had to run out the door without applying a lip colour.

NAIL FILE Revlon Crystal File
This is a new addition but one I wish I'd had on hand many many times. I always break nails and never have any solution other then peeling it off... Gross I know. I've popped this in so next time I'm prepared and don't have to ruin my nail!

Luxe
This week my best friend gave me this gorgeous YSL palette as a late birthday present. How lucky am I?! I had let go of the thought of getting this limited edition palette so I couldn't believe it when I unwrapped it! I haven't even swatched it yet because it's so beautiful.

Upfront Comedy Show
I was lucky enough to be invited to the comedy show 'Upfront' which was sponsored by Benefit. My friend and I went along and it was was a fantastic night full of laughs. I also finally got to meet my blogging friend Jasmine from Sweetaholic Beauty in person which was so lovely! Thank you Benefit for inviting me along I had an amazing time :)

Beauty Rut
Lately I've felt like I'm in a bit of a beauty rut and using the same old routine. At the start of the week I decided to shake things up by pulling out some goodies I haven't tried in a while. Fingers crossed I rekindled my love for some different bits so I can show you all!

CLARINS BE LONG MASCARA

✎ Friday, 18 April 2014
11 Comments
Rarely do I buy expensive mascaras. My love affair with Maxfactor has been to strong for me to stray into the unknown land of high end mascaras. The Clarins Be Long Mascara* promises to grip the  promises to grip the lashes coating each individual lash, with no clumps. The formulation is designed to encourage lash growth which was something I was very intrigued in.
The brush is fantastic. The plastic bristle brush is perfect for getting right into the roots of the lashes and  really coating each lash. I was surprised on how small it is compared to a regularly brush but it makes application to your lower and upper lashes really fool-proof. The slight angle the brush is on also helps application to the root of the lashes.
As for the finished look on the lashes... I'm in love. The formulation really allows for no clumps at all and it helps define each lash. I like the added volume and length I get with only one quick coat, I think that's the huge difference I see compared to other cheaper mascaras. I find drugstore mascaras can achieve this look but it takes alot of fiddling around and layering whereas this is really a quick coat and go mascara. The other thing I love is the way it holds a curl so well. As I've said before, my lashes are long and rarely do they hold a curl, but this formulation is amazing! As for the claims that this promotes lash growth I haven't noticed a difference but I haven't used this mascara exclusively.

Would I repurchase? I'm tempted. I have about six mascaras to get through before I make my decision but I think that there is such a huge difference between a drugstore mascara and this one by Clarins. I have no complaints at all with it and I could easily use this exclusively and be content!

Has a high-end mascara stole your heart?

WELEDA WILD ROSE DAY CREAM

✎ Thursday, 17 April 2014
6 Comments
I'm very particular about my moisturiser for during the day. I don't like anything too heavy because my skin does become oily throughout the day and if I use something that's too much it can contribute to my make up sliding off quicker. The Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Day Cream* is aimed at dry skin so I was a little worried when I first started trialling it. It's a thick cream that is actually really light in texture but injects alot of moisturise into the skin. I was surprised that it didn't make my make up break apart but I do feel like it's a bit too heavy for me during the day, keeping in mind I do have combination/oily skin.

I think in winter I'll be able to use this because my skin always dries out but in general, for combination/oily skin, I wouldn't recommend it.I think if you have dry skin or like something really hydrating for during the day this would be amazing for you. It's super gentle on the skin and leaves behind a lovely smooth canvas to apply your make up on.

This month if you purchase the Wild Rose Smoothing Day Cream and receive the Wild Rose Smoothing Night Cream free here

NOURISH YOUR HAIR WITH JUUCE + GIVEAWAY

✎ Wednesday, 16 April 2014
20 Comments
If there is something I appreciate it's good haircare. When I was given the opportunity to trial a new line (and giveaway some for you guys too) I couldn't say no. Juuce is a beautiful brand that I haven't used for a few years since finding brands like Redken and Goldwell however now I've been using this line I don't know why I ever stopped.

Soothe Argan Soft Shampoo + Conditioner
I'm a bit fussy when it comes to hydrating shampoo and conditioners because my hair gets weighed down easily and it also it oily at the roots. When I first squeezed the shampoo into my hand - I was worried. It is a thick cream consistency, similar to a conditioner, and I thought there was no way it was going to work for me. I was so surprised by this duo. The shampoo is incredibly thick but doesn't cause my roots to become more oily at all. I like using the shampoo because it's so rich, being blonde all my hair can be quite dry, this really nourishes all my hair. The conditioner isn't as special as the shampoo but together they make a really lovely hydrating set.

Soothe Argan Oil Angel Mist
I love a good leave in treatment and this is a top quality one. The spray gives off a fine mist that allows for even distribution throughout the hair so I don't need to spray too much in. The formulation is light but still detangles and adds a bit more shine into the hair. I can use this on damp or dry hair and it doesn't cause my hair to be weighed down or leave a sticky residue through my locks. If you're looking for a leave-in conditioner that will go the extra mile then this one is worth looking at.

Shine Argan Shimmer Shine Spray
This is easily my favourite product from the bunch. This is the first shine spray I've used and it's amazing for finishing off your hairstyle. I have really dry, frizzy hair so I sometimes find after styling it can look almost course, straw like and generally super dry. I've been using this after styling and it just makes everything look a little bit more sleek and put together without leaving a residue in the hair. Previous to finding this I was putting a regular hair oil throughout my hair to finish off my styles bur this provides all the shine and put-together appearance I'm after in the ease of a light spray.

GIVEAWAY
1 winner will win the whole range picture
3 runners-up will win the Shimmer Shine Spray
Australia only
Will close in 2 weeks!

HOW TO: CHICKEN & QUINOA SOUP

✎ Tuesday, 15 April 2014
16 Comments
Over on Instagram I regularly post food photos but putting up recipes on More Than Adored is something I never really considered until an overwhelming amount of people expressed interest in seeing food posts. Soup is my favourite food ever so I thought I'd start off with something I adore and I know this doesn't look amazing but it tastes incredible.

Ingredients                                Serves: 4                          Cooking time: 20 minutes

Olive Oil
1 Leek
250g of Pumpkin, coarsely grated
1 Carrot, coarsely grated
3 cups of Chicken Stock
1/2 cup of Quinoa, not cooked
300g of Chicken Breast, roughly chopped
1/2 a tablespoon of Ground Cumin (or more to taste)
1 cup of Wombok, shredded
Parsley to garnish

Method

Step 1: Heat saucepan over medium heat and add in the pumpkin, leek and a splash of olive oil. Cook until soft (about 3-4 minutes)
Step 2: Add chicken stock and an additional 500ml of water. Bring to boil then lower the heat to low-medium.
Step 3: Add chicken, quinoa and carrot. Leave uncovered to simmer away for about 10 minutes.
Step 4: Add the ground cumin and cabbage and further cook until the cabbage is tender.
Step 5: Garnish with parsley and pepper. Serve with delicious bread.

This is a fantastic way to get kids eating vegetables that they wouldn't usually. Apart from the cabbage all the other vegetables are virtually undetectable so it's a great way to slip in some extra goodness. It's a basic soup but the cumin adds a lovely flavour and it's one of my favourites. As I post more food related content you'll realise that I'm a no fuss, healthy eater. I don't like things that take hours to make and I'm not a fan of foods that make you feel heavy or bloated.

If you have any questions of food posts you'd like to see let me know in the comments!
