Whether you’re a Mum who wants to look put together or someone who just doesn’t have time to stand in front of the mirror for 40 minutes this is the perfect step-by-step for you! I’m not a Mummy and this post is a little out of the ordinary but when it was requested by a lovely friend who I know in real life (shocking I know) I decided to take the challenge because it’s a topic that isn’t widely covered. ALL products are affordable that you can pick up in your local pharmacy so it won’t break the bank either!
Okay, so first things first (I’ll eat your brain – NM reference anyone?) you need to cleanse your skin. I know this is a MAKE UP post but hey, a clean base is important. For a quick refresh take a micellar on a cotton pad and swipe over the face. It’s quick but will still refresh the skin! I also really recommend a brightening eye cream with reflecting particles to help look more awake.
Now for base there are two options that are both equally as quick as each other. First option is applying a BB cream like the Rimmel BB Cream Matte with your fingers all over your skin. These are a two-in-one product so you’ll get your moisturising benefits as well as a light coverage. BB creams don’t work for everyone. If you’re super pale or have oily skin I’d recommend opting for a moisturiser first then applying concealer to your ‘problem’ areas. This is the option I’ve gone for applying the concealer, I used Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Concealer, down the centre of my face as that’s where my redness is. Make sure you take either of these options right up underneath the eyes to help cover any darkness. Finish off by setting it with a powder of sorts (if you have dry skin you can skip this) whether it be a pressed powder like the Maybelline Matte Maker Mattifying Powder or the Australis Loose Finishing Powder both will ensure the base lasts throughout the day.
The contour trend is real but so unrealistic for the everyday person. Don’t fret over chiselling out cheekbones unless you’re having a date night with hubby or a girls night – it’s not worth doing every single day! Instead I recommend a really glow-y blush to perk up the skin. The Essence Blushes are SUPER affordable (like under $5) and will make your complexion look lively. Done. No need for bronzer, contour, highlight. My favourite shade from the Essence range is the colour ‘Adorable’.
This is where you could take forever and a day applying product but this simple look takes no time and make your eyes look more awake. The first thing you want to do is curl the lashes. I know eyelash curlers are scary but they make a world of difference. Apply a coat of mascara or two. Maxfactor do some awesome ones but so do Maybelline, I used the new Lash Sensational and I have to admit it’s not my favourite but I’ve linked some other awesome options. I also applied a shimmery shadow to the inner corner to brighten up the eye but that is SOOOO optional. A nude eyeliner in the waterline will also help brighten up the area. The last step is two tame the brows with either a clear brow gel or something like the L’oreal Brow Artist Plumper – both are gel products so they’re super easy to apply and tame the brows in place.
For lips on an everyday basis I recommend a balm like the ViraproX (will help prevent coldsores as well) OR one with a little bit of a tint like the Baby Lips from Maybelline. Both offer hydration and are sooo comfortable to wear.
I timed myself, when I wasn’t taking photos obviously, and this took me all of 7 minutes from start to finish so it’s a routine that is easy to adapt into your morning routine.
What do you think of this make up? Do you have any brightening make up tips?
