For the cooler months Mary Kay have released a new collection called ‘Midnight Jewels’ boasting rich hues perfect for the season. Although I was a little skeptical about the collection at first, the eyeshadow quad especially, I’ve really been enjoying some of the products. Here is a low down on the must-have bits.
Let’s talk about that Eye Color Palette in ‘Emerald Noir’ first. It’s gorgeous in the pan but I wasn’t sure how it would swatch. Can you see that pigmentation?! What was I concerned about?! The emerald and blue shades have amazing pay off and the tone of the colours are perfect making them a more wearable shade for everyday. I’m not huge on green or blues on me but the three middle shades have been getting a work out! If you’re a fan of these kind-of tones then it’s definitely one to check out! The other eyeshadow quad included in the collection is a little darker with a range of deep blues which would be perfect for a more sultry look.
Onto lips and the collection includes two of the Semi-Matte Lipsticks in ‘Ruby Night’ and ‘Pink Moonstone’. The formulation of these is interesting because they’re still creamy but give off a good amount of pigmentation. I’m not a fan of the packaging and find it a little bit hard to get the perfect application around the lip liner with the rounded top however I can’t fault the formulation. I prefer ‘Pink Moonstone’ because it’s the nude and if I’m going to wear a deep shade like ‘Ruby Night’ I want it to be matte. The lipgloss to compliment the collection is the Lip Shimmer in ‘Pearl Rose’ which is a very pale, very shimmery lipgloss. It’s not sticky but can feel a little chunky on the lips because of the shimmer particles. I’m not huge on glosses like this so it’s one I probably won’t get a lot of use out of. Considering this retails for almost $30 I would say give it a miss because this kind of shimmery gloss can be easily substituted for an affordable alternative.
