THE WEEKLY NOTES #6 feedback, fashion shoots & winter food babies

This one is going to be a lengthy one so sorry in advance for a rambly post but hey, that’s what I created this series for right? Grab a wine or tea and let’s chat!

I wanted to start by talking about feedback. Feedback is such an essential part of bettering yourself whether it be personally or professionally and that goes for giving feedback as well as receiving it. This week I received some constructive feedback that came across super rude because of course it was typed out in an email rather then verbalised. It wasn’t typed in the nicest manner at all so at first I felt really disheartened despite agreeing with everything that was said. I just think we all need to be uber careful when giving feedback online. My favourite way to do this is in a feedback sandwich - one positive, one negative and then another positive.

I’ve been doing more outfit posts over here on MTA and if I’m honest it’s been tough. When I first started blogging I had three fears - one was being on camera without make up which I’ve well and truly gotten over, the second was doing outfit posts or anything that included a full length shot and the third is recording a video. When I decided to do outfit posts it was become I wanted to add an extra element to the site and because I wanted to do that the fear subsided a little. Of course, I still struggle when uploading a new one… As if I’m afraid of someone picking apart my flaws but at the end of the day if someone online is critical about my shape or size it’s really doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t say I’m happy with my body however I’m 100% aware of it. You wouldn’t be able to guess I hate getting my photo taken with the amount of me you see both on the website and on social media. I do. And it’s even worse when it comes to videos! Video content will come soon, I promise. Alot of you guys have been saying I should just go for it and thank you! It really has pushed me and made my fear of being on camera lessen… A little anyways.

On a lighter note has anyone else felt like they’ve just eaten all winter? I am the worst. I feel like all I want to eat at the moment is bread, pasta and bread… And pasta. WHY! I cannot wait for the weather to warm up, seriously.

What’s been happening with you guys? Anything exciting? I’m online and keen to chat so please leave a comment or tweet me!

When I provide feedback at work, I always use the sandwich method too because I know that’s what I would like. It just delivers the message so much better and people are more willing to accept the feedback.

I totally feel the winter eating thing! My pasta intake has increased so much, but something about it just feels so cosy when you’re eating it. x

I love these posts, they’re a little more laid back and well, chatty. I’m putting out my first editors letter on the new blog soon and because of what I have in mind my photo for that post has to be a photo of me, it’s pretty daunting having to take a good photo with my big girl camera and put it online because I just don’t feel like I look the best when photos are taken with that camera (it’s great for other blog shots though, I just prefer to use my phone for selfies). It’s kind of fun pushing yourself out of that comfort zone isn’t it? And new things always come from it, once you take that initial step it’s all good from then on out. I can’t wait to see some videos though! So exciting!

As for Winter, I feel like I’ve eaten shitty foods all winter. Can’t wait for the warmer months to hit so I can feel 100% again with a lot more fruits and vegetables to cool down.

Definitely is pushing you outside of the comfort zone. Good luck with your editors letter. I’m sure your photo will turn out great :)

I can totally relate with the eating thing. All I want (& have been eating) lately is carbs, Winter is the worst! I’m literally drowning in bread haha! I love the sandwich method. I’ve also received emails/comments being ‘constructive feedback’ but come across as so rude! People should be a little more conscious of how they sound online. P.s. Loving your style posts!! xx

With the YouTube thing, treat it like you are talking to a friend… This may sound weird but even have something behind the camera to “talk” to. It really does make it easier :)

Thank you so much for the advice Anita! I definitely will take that in to consideration if I struggle :)

I’m honestly loving your outfit photos so so much! I feel like so many bloggers that post outfits are just so out of my comfort zone and things that I would never imagine wearing. You post gorgeously put together outfits that are still wearable :) I think we might actually have a similar body shape! If anyone ever, ever, ever, criticises you, just always know that you’re beautiful and you put yourself out there to help people like me and others. If they don’t accept what you do and put you down, they aren’t even worth your time ++ I cannot waaaaait for you to produce some video content! xx

I adore your outfit pics Sarah! I really love how blogging is something that helps a lot of people face their fears. I honestly think you’d be great in front of a video camera (based off your short snap videos haha), can’t wait to see your Youtube debut! And I know what you mean about verbalising on the internet, it’s so hard to convey emotions and feelings sometimes just through typed words…
