Rimmel’s recent reformulation and rerelease of the popular Match Perfection Foundation caused a bit of a stir. Some people were scared to see the crowd favourite change whilst others were excited. Although I was in the second crowd I definitely still have my reservations about trying a Rimmel foundation because I haven’t had much luck in the past.
The foundation Rimmel claims to have invisible coverage with visibly perfected skin. They go as far to claim it is a ‘mistake-proof’ foundation.. A big claim! It has a 24hour moisture complex for hydrated skin and a soft focus technology that is designed to help reduce imperfections such as pores and dark circles.
My first thought when applying is that is does blend fairly easily into the skin with a flat top kabuki brush however it never really sinks into my skin. I left it for a good 20 minutes whilst doing the rest of my make up and it still never felt like it had settled. I do like the medium coverage and it does feel light on the skin so I can see why people rave about it being a great one for everyday. My skin texture issues may have contributed to the foundation not settling in or perhaps I need to try blending it in with a beauty blender?
After 3.5 hours I really like how the foundation is looking on my skin, putting the way it’s sitting around my nose/mouth/chin aside, it has worn well considering the 34 degree day! It did rub off on my nose and a tiny bit on my cheek because I was working and therefore was wearing glasses however apart from that it looks good. On a typical day I wouldn’t touch up at this stage.
After 8.5 hours you can see a little bit of oil coming through on the sides of my nose, chin and forehead which is wear I have problems throughout the day with oils. I haven’t lost any coverage throughout the day apart from where my glasses sit so it does seem to last really well throughout the day and with a touch up it could potentially be a great long wearing foundation. Another thing I noticed is that the longer I wore it the more it oxidised throughout the day!
Overall it’s a good foundation but it didn’t hit the mark for me personally. If you have fairly normal skin that doesn’t have skin texture issue I think it’d would be a great budget option for you but unfortunately I couldn’t get it to work. Perhaps next time I’ll try using a beauty blender and I’ll update this post if it works better!
