THE WEEKLY NOTES #5 puppy school, disappointed by bloggers & switching off

If you read yesterday’s beauty catch up you’ll know this weekend I’m taking five away from technology and although you’ll see some scheduled promotional tweets or FB posts I’m not actually there (crazy huh?!) but I wanted to still sit down and chat with you about the past week so grab a coffee, or a wine, and let’s go!

This week we started puppy school with little Simba and I feel like a proud parent who is letting their child go to daycare for the first time… Well not really because I WAS there with him but it’s crazy because I feel like we JUST got him last week and we’re already doing puppy school. We’re doing ours through Bendigo Animal Hospital with the lovely Sue for anyone around the Bendigo area and it’s really fun.

I also wanted to bring up a little niggle I had this week with bloggers and I hate being a negative Nancy more than anything but this has really annoyed me! I was innocently Googling a product to find a link for a post, just the usual, and I stumbled across a eBay listing. This was for a product that is limited edition, not released yet and had been sent out to the media for reviewing purposes. I am still absolutely disappointed immensely by the person (I don’t actually know who it was but you know, whoever it is) and that they’re taking advantage of the privilege of being on a media list plus making money off it. I’ve also noticed a few bloggers selling samples in blog sales which again I think is wrong! I don’t know… You don’t pay for the product initially so I don’t understand how people think it’s okay to sell it on… It’s not as if you’re losing out cost wise! Why are people so bloody greedy? Does this really get to anyone else?

Anyway on a lighter notes I’ve signed off for the weekend. Maybe it’s a combination of the above disappointment in the blogging world and the intense pressure I put on myself but I’ve been craving a break for a little while. This weekend I plan on going through my cookbooks and marking out all the new meals I want to try and watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians which I’ve just started from season one…. Please tell me I’m not the only one who enjoys both of those things?

What have you been up to this week? Anything interesting?

Oh wow, that is really low of that person to sell a sample (an LE, unreleased one at that) on ebay! They’re definitely taking advantage and being super selfish - ugh. It’ll be good to take a break though, you’ve been working so hard!

Definitely good to take a break Sarah! You’ve been steaming ahead and love the posts and the ideas you have amazes me! As you know, I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out so been taking a bit of a break. And it’s nice to have some time away tbh. Lovely photo of you and Simba! :P

I also have a book blog that I’ve been running for 4 years and yes, unfortunately the greediness happens all the time. When book conferences happens and highly coveted and exclusive Advanced Reader Copies of books are distributed, you always see them on Ebay a few days later for something ridiculous like $100. And I’ve seen some bloggers try to sell their ARC’s which is also not only wrong but illegal. It can get discouraging but I don’t associate with those people so I try to look at all the positive things I like about book blogging instead :)

That’s so disappointing but it’s apart of the industry I guess… It’s a shame though.

Simba is growing so fast! Such a grown up boy! Ah I have never heard of people selling things that they have gotten from a media list. That really is a new low. Why not give it to a friend or family if they aren’t going to use it.. Surely all credibility is lost doing something like that! x

Love the sound of scheduled tweets! Is there an app for that? I’d love to know what it’s called :) Simba really is such a gorgeous dog, I love watching yours snapchats of him!! That is so bad that someone, who clearing is meant to be reviewing this product is actually trying to sell it. Enjoy your break, you deserve it :)

I totally agree with you, bloggers selling samples is totally wrong, they should feel blessed to be sent the things in the first place x

I thought everyone sold samples after the reviews?

    • http://www.morethanadored.com/ Sarah

I’ve never seen anyone doing it until recently and personally I don’t think it’s right but each to their own I guess! I just think if you didn’t pay for it then you shouldn’t resell the product…

  • http://creepersandcupcakes.blogspot.co.uk Kristina

I agree with you, re-selling samples isn’t right to be honest, just a cheeky way to get money.

  • http://nueyork.blogspot.com nueyork

It had never even occurred to me that some people might resell samples, but it doesn’t sit right with me either! Passing along to friends and family or donating are such better options and only once you’ve given the product a go. x

I was actually thinking about the whole “what people do with samples” thing this past week, and I agree, it’s completely wrong to be making a profit out of something you didn’t pay for initially… very sad to see! One should feel privileged to even be sent anything in the first place. Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and got to ‘disconnect’ for a little bit. Simba is a cutie! xx

    • http://www.morethanadored.com/ Sarah

Exactly right! I don’t see how people could do such a thing but each to their own I guess. Thanks Daniela :) I definitely did but glad to be back now lol xx

I hope I haven’t bought anything that was a press sample!! =S Yikes! Sometimes it’s hard to tell! Did you know that Khloe K was having brekkie at a small town I use to live (Narellan, NSW) in yesterday? Crazy!! Hope you’re having a lovely break!

WHAT! I knew she was in the country but that’s just awesome. I’m so jealous for all those bloggers that got to go be in the same room as her… Although I probably would’ve fan-girled hard and totally got kicked out or something xD

  • http://www.madelineloves.com Madeline

I agree with you on press samples! It’s disappointing because having the opportunity to receive those items helps bloggers blog better and deliver more content to their readers so I think taking advantage of that is disrespectful to both companies and readers who support your blog. I prefer to share things that didn’t work for me with family and friends xx

Couldn’t put it better myself Mads! xxxx

  • http://www.katinalindaa.com/ Katina Lindaa

Omg what!? People sell samples!??? I had no idea :/ That’s so so so wrong! If you receive a sample and you don’t like it and its unopened why not donate it!? If you receive a sample, try it out, don’t like it, give it to your family or friends !? Crazy people.

I remember you mentioning that awful business on twitter and I have to say I’m super disappointed as well. Unfortunately I find that the blogging world is disappointing me more and more these past few months, with people selling samples and bagging out other bloggers, it’s just so sad.

Little Simba is growing up to be so gorgeous already - I remember when I took my pups to puppy pre-school.. it was a wild ride haha! Enjoy it while it lasts ;)

I hope you had a lovely weekend gorgeous! xx

Totally agree about media samples and people selling them. Gets on my nerves! I get a bunch too and I usually give them away to friends or family members if I don’t like them or won’t be using them anymore. Selling them is just wrong on so many levels. There are so many other ways you can make money through blogging.

I’ve also been on a (prolonged) break from blogging and I’m feeling so refreshed now! You deserve a break, dear ;) Have fun cooking and keeping up with the K’s! <3

Just scrolled through your page to find this again haha. I came across a fellow blogger (whom I know) selling stuff she was sent on a Make Up selling page on Facebook. It makes me so mad. Like, we could all use the money but its the principle. I had to vent haha <3
