5 STEPS TO FINDING MORE TIME IN YOUR DAY

We all have the same number of hours in the day, yet some of my friends are so productive while I go to bed most nights wondering what I have accomplished. There are so many things I desperately want to do and yet I have no time. So with the pile of books I’ve been dying to read just staring me in the face and a scrap booking project left half-heartedly on the table I decided to pick up my game and found five ways to give yourself more of the time you deserve.

1/ Social Media in moderation
If you find yourself snapping away to your meals or any picturesque moments to store for future Instagram/Twitter/Facebook posts. Maybe you just really enjoy chatting away to friends, or stalking your ex’s crush on Facebook. We’ve all been there- I’m not judging! Whatever it may be, be careful how long you spend doing it. Even a sneaky two hours of Facebook stalking ends up accumulating to 730 hours in a year (which is 30 days). It really does add up!

2/ Record your TV programs
If you’re anything like me then you will want to watch your favourite TV episode (hello vampire diaries!) as soon as it airs, but recording it and watching it an hour later means you get to fast forward the ads and have an extra 20 minutes up your sleeve. Genius.

3/ Multi-task
Now I’m not going to try and persuade you to study while on the walking machine, and watching TV like Elle in Legally Blonde because frankly I’ve tried it, and that is a lot more difficult than it looks! Honestly Elle! Although by simply finding quiet moments in your day and filling them with things you enjoy really isn’t as complicated as it sounds, and it really works. For example, I usually need to sit in traffic for an hour either side of work, so I’ve recently bought a couple of audio books (of books I wanted to read for ages) and listen to them. Win, win.

4/ Working hard or hardly working?
Get in tune with your moods and energy levels and coordinate your tasks around those times. I am a morning person and I know if I try and get anything accomplished after 7pm it’ll take me twice as long to do because I am simply not able to focus.

5/ Learn to say ‘no’
If you’re a people pleaser like myself you’ll find your calendar getting filled with ‘catch-ups’ and ‘babysitting duties’. Of course it’s always important to help out those close to you but don’t feel obligated to spend all your time for someone else (especially if they don’t appreciate it).

What are your top tips for finding for time in your days?

  • Love this! I definitely need to learn to say No! Tbh when people ask me to do things, the thought flashes in my mind that I’m going to stress myself out and struggle to balance things, but I say yes anyway. *sigh* Making the best out of time on public transport is another good one! I always bookmark articles and read them on the bus :)

Great suggestions. I have been skipping the ads since video, it does save time.
It means I find some of the online catch up TV services so frustrating because there is no way to skip the ads.
Reading on public transport is another time saver for me. Plus it takes me away from where I am to another world.
