Earlier this year Laura Mercier added a new foundation to their already extensive range of high quality bases. This was super exciting for me because I already adore the line so I couldn’t wait to test it out. Here is a how to wears throughout the day and my final thoughts on the foundation.
A bit about the foundation and it’s claims before we get into the wear. It’s a very watery foundation because it’s a bi-phase product. It has ‘colour true pigments rest at the bottom of the package while reflective waters (Hydro-Brilliant Technology) float to the top‘. As interesting and cool as that is the foundation can be messy. You really need to give it a good shake before even opening the bottle to ensure that the formulation is well and truly blended together. It claims to be long-wear, humidity, sweat proof and water resistant. As well as non-greasy, non-drying, oil-free and non-comedogenic. It’s suitable for all skin types but ‘especially’ normal-to oily skins and is described as a buildable medium/full coverage.
First off I have to gush about the incredible colour range available from Laura Mercier and quite honestly, it’s the only line I’ve ever found a PERFECT match within. In this particular foundation line I’m the shade Ivory which suits me amazingly. After playing with this foundation for the past two months I find that fingertips or a sponge is the best way to apply it. With a brush I find it can sit on top of the skin and look a little cakey. In these photos I’ve applied one generous layer with a BeautyBlender and as you can see the coverage is pretty amazing despite the super light formulation. It’s exactly what it says on the tin, lightweight but still full coverage. I have to say applying a foundation with a sponge is my least favourite way because it takes longer but it’s worth the finish you get. The interesting thing about this foundation is although it’s so watery it sets up really well on the skin, so much so I haven’t been powdering it *shock horror* I know but I just love the finish so much! After four hours of wear I love the foundation even more because my natural oils have come through a little bit. I find that around my nose can be quite oily but remember that I avoided any sort of setting powder which is quite a big deal with my combination skin. It still feels quite comfortable on the skin and hasn’t caked up at all. Around my nose is usually a problematic area for me and this happens with most foundations. By 7 hours I want to claw my nose off because of the pool of oil that is sitting around it. I’ve been itching it quite a bit so I have lost a bit of coverage around that area. Apart from that I think the foundation has lasted quite well throughout my day. The coverage has faded slightly and I can see my blemish marks peaking through ever-so slightly but given the high coverage offered to begin with that doesn’t bother me. At this point in a regular day I would powder my face as it is noticeably uncomfortable due to the oil sitting throughout my T-Zone. In saying that I don’t think it looks overly bad at all. Especially considering I didn’t powder!
Overall I’m pretty in love with the foundation. I do think if you do have the tendency to become oily throughout the day it’s a good idea to set the foundation throughout the T-Zone or wherever your problem areas are. The consistency and application aren’t my favourite however I can forgive that because of the way it feels so light yet offers such amazing coverage. I find it is fairly easy to sheer out using a sponge and less product too so that’s always handy for times when you don’t want or need as full of a coverage. This foundation is perfect for summer and I highly recommend. Laura Mercier can do me no wrong when it comes to bases!
