We feature alot of brands and products every week here on MTA… And although I like to keep things positive sometimes I also find it refreshing to chat about the products that just didn’t work out for me. Here are some from 2015 that I’ll be donating to friends and family. It’s not you it’s me kinda deal I think?

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide
This was a release from late 2014 and I even reviewed it on the website (so embarrassing with my very badly ombre hair). There is no denying that this is a fantastic, light weight foundation that lasts well throughout the day. My problem lies with the horrible packaging that becomes messy thanks to the extra liquid-y foundation formulation. I just feel as though it would be better with a pump of some sort. I also find this foundation little temperamental with what you team it with. It doesn’t like anything that’s too silicone based underneath meaning it can be tricky to apply with your usual products. That problem I can live with as I’m spoilt for choice when it comes to primers however for the everyday gal it could be an issue.

Maxfactor Miracle Match Foundation
I really don’t mind this foundation formula at all. It’s light, glowy but still holds up well (see full review here).. In fact I really enjoy it however it’s the god awful smell I cannot stand. I actually can’t use this product because of the pungent smell!

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
One of Benefit’s key launches from 2015 was the addition of a new mascara to the line up. Don’t get me wrong I love Benefit and I was estastic when I heard that they were bringing out another mascara because the Benefit They’re Real is one of my favourite mascaras of all time. I find this one flakes on me which is an issue that I haven’t ran into with any of the other Benefit mascaras… When it comes to higher end mascaras I expect perfection and this just wasn’t it for me.

Maybelline Color Molten Eyeshadow Duos
I’m a huge fan of Maybelline and particularly their eye product range however I found the colour selection a little off with these molten shadows. I felt that one of the two was gorgeous and then the second shade fell short or just wasn’t an ideal pairing for my taste. I’m sure there are some people who loved them but it just wasn’t a line that impressed me.

Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer
I have a real love hate relationship with this concealer because it’s actually one of my favourite concealers EVER but like the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide it can be awful to layer… 80% of the time it doesn’t like my other base products and will separate wherever I apply it. If you have any tips for working with this particular concealer please help a girl out.

Physicians Formula Eyelash Extensions Mascara
Fibre mascaras and me don’t usually get along and this was just another duo that I couldn’t get to work for me. I have super sensitive eyes and no matter what I did this just fell into them making me want to claw my eyes out. I’m yet to find a fibre mascara I like.

Did you have any products that just didn’t work for you in 2015?

I was almost shocked to see the Laura Mercier foundation as I absolutely love it! But I’m with you on the terrible packaging – I always have to stand it upside down so that the extra product doesn’t spill everywhere when I open it. Worst product design of all the LM products I’ve tried. I’ve also never been a fan of the Benefit mascaras, I feel most are overhyped for the most part – I tend to stick to the drugstore ones more!

I couldn’t get the Roller Lash to work for me either which was disappointing because so many people seemed to love it. I’ve recently gotten the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and I’m hoping to not have another Roller Lash situation on my hands…

Oooh, it’s such a shame that the Maybelline Fit Me concealer didn’t work for you! I haven’t had a problem with it separating when layered over base products – but then again, most of my base products are more liquidy. I was keen on trying the LM foundation but I’ve read a couple of complaints regarding the packaging and that’s what’s stopping me from buying it cuz I just know I’ll make a mess out of it! xxxx

Oh, I was like ‘nooo not the LM foundation!’ but yes, it is a nice product but the bottle design is terrible! I’m storing mine upside down in a cup separate from my other foundations and so I forget that it’s there and I don’t use it! Arg! I couldn’t get the Garnier Skin Miracle cream to work for me, it sat weird on my skin.

I can definitely see the packaging of the LM foundation being so messy! And ooh interesting about the Max Factor foundation, I’ve never heard anyone mention the smell! And omg completely in agreement about Roller Lash. It smudges really badly on me! Plus, is doesn’t curl my lashes AT ALL.

It’s too bad that your not a fan of the FITme concealer, love how it wears never had an issue of it separating. I also layer mine on top of my BB cream and I set it with a powder, so it doesn’t move through out the day. Don’t understand the Roller lash specially when Cover Girl lash bloom is very similar that is more volumizing I find.

I love the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer but I feel your pain–the only foundation it works well with is the correlating Fit Me! foundation, I use the concealer and the matte + poreless foundation that it goes with–if I don’t, the concealer doesn’t work quite as well.

I’ve just started using the fit me matt foundation and I find the exact same thing with that too. I can’t layer it and it can come off when I put other products on top of it, especially on my nose. But I am sticking with it and trying different ways to apply it.
I like these kinds of posts, they are just as helpful as positive reviews! I usually always read the negative reviews of products first so I am not blinded by the positive ones.

Love seeing what doesn’t work – just as important as seeing good reviews! I remember using Maybelline Fit Me Concealer back in the day and it didn’t wow me… Such a shame about the Roller Lash mascara, so many reviews out there but flaking is definitely a deal breaker! x

I wanted to love my molten shadows, but I kept getting pieces of cream shadow stuck in my lashes and falling into my eyes :(

I’m sad you didn’t like Roller Lash! That was one of my favourite mascaras this year and didn’t flake for me at all. It sucks too because for a $40 mascara I’d be pissed if it flaked on me! haha. I haven’t tried any of the other products but now I will know that they may not work for me :)
