When it comes to skincare we all can forget to listen to our skin as the weather cools down but it is so important reevaluate our routines to ensure our skin is feeling (and looking) its best. Here are some tips to help adapting your skincare to cooler weather a little easier.
Listen to your skin. It sounds weird but your skin is pretty damn good at telling you when something needs to change. Dry and flaky? Maybe you need something a little richer. Redness? You need something a little more calming. Tightness? You may need more hydration or you could be using something a little too harsh for your skin. When the weather cools down it’s normal for your skin to have a little freak out but as long as you notice and act accordingly it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
Changing your cleanser is one of the key things that often gets neglected. I find something a little more creamy and hydrating, like the Avene Cleansing Foam, makes my skin happy in the cooler months compared to a gel-based product I would be reaching for in the dead of summer. From there moisturiser and/or treatment is generally the first thing I swap out because it’s easily done and these are the products that really penetrate the skin. Incorporating an oil like the Medik8 Glow Oil or a hydrating treatment like the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster will help lift your skin and ensure it’s not drying out. The best part about both products is that they can easily be customised to suit how your skin is feeling by either applying them directly to your skin or mixed in with your favourite moisturiser just for a little boost.
The other thing to consider is treating your skin with the odd hydrating face mask like the Avene Soothing Moisture Mask or the Ultraderm Skin Recovery Mask. These are both gorgeous, hydrating and soothing making them perfect if your skin is feeling tight or dry. I particularly love using either of these after a purifying mask or facial to help sooth the skin too!
