NON-SILICONE BASED PRIMERS TO TRY

3-non-silicone-primers-that-rock

There is some feelings I just can’t stay and one of them is the feel of silicone primers. Anyone else feel that way? I don’t find pore filling products work well for me because of my skin texture anyway but I digress. I thought I’d share with you some options if you’re wanting to incorporate a primer that makes a difference but you’re like me and dislike the texture of a silicone based primer.

My absolute must-have is the Maxfactor Facefinity All Day Primer because I find it smoothing without leaving the skin feeling slippery. It’s very basic, no frills at all BUT it works and that’s all I ask of any product really. I haven’t found a foundation this doesn’t work under so it’s a great go-to recommendation because I feel like it’ll most for nearly everyone. The NARS Pro-Prime Pore Refining Primer is a similar product in that it’s fairly basic, smooths over the skin without leaving a residue and doesn’t leave the skin feel slippery. I find this one a little more moisturising so it’ll be a great option for anyone with more normal or dry skin because of that factor.

Last up is the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance and this one is completely different (I do LOVE the original though!!!). It is a cream that has illuminating particles in it so it really does give your skin such a glow. It’s great for events or even if you want an everyday radiant complexion but be warned that it is pretty intense. I love it though. It’s great mixed with your foundation too!

I LOVE silicone primers haha. But it’s nice to try other types too! The Laura Mercier one with illuminating properties sounds fantastic.

  • I’m not a silicone primer fan either. The Laura Mercier Hydrating is usually my go-to but the Radiance also sounds lovely, as long as ‘illuminating particles’ don’t equal ‘glitter’!

    • Definitely not glittery :)

  • It’s so hard to find primers without silicones. They make everything slide off my oily skin. I absolutely love the Smashbox Primer Water, but I’ll definitely need to take a look at the Laura Mercier primer!

    • So glad I’m not the only one!!!

  • I like to mix both! I need the pore filling component but have dry skin so I like to mix a non silicone primer with one so I get the best of both worlds! I love the Maxfactor All day! It’s great!

    • So glad you loved it as well :)

  • I haven’t tried any of these but always hear people raving about Facefinity, so once I finish at least one of my many primers I definitely want to try that one out next! I agree about silicone - a lot of silicone heavy primers just don’t work on my skin, they just ball up and create a mess!

    • So glad I’m not the only one. Even the Benefit Porefessional never worked for me.

  • Oh my god I LOVE the Max Factor Primer! It is such a staple for me now, I don’t think I could be without it!

    • So glad you had some luck with it as well :)

  • Primers are SO hit and miss for me, I think it would be so easy to find good ones if you have dry skin cause you’d just go for really hydrating ones with a pearly colour for some glow, but when you need your primer to help control oil it’s a nightmare! I was thinking of doing a big post with all my thoughts about primers because I feel like I have a lot to say on the topic, haha. But I find those thick silicone cream pore-filler type primers (Pore-Fessional, et al) don’t do anything for me for oil control even if they’re marketed towards oily skin, and the same goes for the clear runny silicone gels - they’re useless!

I was really surprised by the Max Factor primer though, that’s one of the best I’ve found, and I do really like the Laura Mercier Oil Free Primer as well. I tried that NARS one though because I got the mini in a Mecca beauty box and it didn’t work out for me which is a shame because I usually love everything from NARS, but I think that’s one I’ll be passing on to my mum.

    • I’m exactly the same with the Benefit one - it did not work for me at all. The Max Factor though is really fantastic isn’t it? Definitely surprised me as well :)
