I’ve never been very good at downsizing…. Well anything at all. When I was 10 I was obsessed with collecting newspapers to make collages, ask my Mum, I had a pile so big that she made me throw them all out because… You know fire hazards and stuff.

So when I started blogging and there was a main focus on beauty I went a little ham. I would buy full collections to review and kept up with all the new release – for years. That’s left me with a lot of stuff that I just don’t know what to do with. I’m not surrounded with a tonne of people who are interested in beauty so palming products off to family and friends isn’t as easy as it sounds so things have gotten a little out of control.

Over the past year I’ve become less beauty obsessed and I feel I’ve found my jam with a routine of products I love. That’s not to say I’m not still more interested in the beauty industry then the average joe but I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t keep consuming beauty products because my storage is low and walking into my office gives me a tight feeling of panic at the best of times.

There is just too much.

I’ve been banging on about clearing out but now I’m deadly serious on doing a massive, massive clear out. So much so I don’t want to house products in the tower if possible… That’s probably a tad extreme but you get, I’m getting lethal. I started on a pile that I had already cleared out in one of my half ass attempts but that was mainly things that I knew were so old and needed to go rather then the things I do particularly use.

My question to you is how do you want me to blog about it? Would you like a series or just one overview? I’m leaning towards a series 2-3 posts a month broken down by categories. I feel like that way it won’t take over my content but we will still churn through it. I do want to share it so that I’m accountable for what I’m keeping rather then doing it away from the blog.

Have you got to the point where you just needed get brutal?

Luckily I don’t have a huge makeup stash since I don’t use the stuff often. Nail polish, on the other hand, is a different story. (Although my stash isn’t in the 1000’s…more like the 100 odd mark.) I periodically go through it & get rid of shades I don’t like, all of which go to a lady at my Mum’s work who can’t afford such luxuries for herself or her daughters. She gets all my unwanted beauty stuff, within reason. (I couldn’t send makeup that I’d used, I’d feel a bit wrong doing that!)

I think a series would be a good idea, especially if you have a lot to declutter.

I’m locking in the idea of a series now.

My nail polish is crazy as well… Luckily I have younger sisters who gladly take it off my hands :)

Yessssss! Please do a declutter series, you know I am so into them! I had a looooot of products to work through so I thought for me it was best to split it into different categories, but even then I’m not doing a post on lip products because there are just way too many to write about without it becoming really repetitive and boring (in my mind). But definitely smaller categories can be gone through one product at a time. I find them so satisfying to watch or read when people are really strict with themselves, and I love getting little reviews as people go along. For me it’s the most honest people usually are about products because either it’s good enough to keep or it’s not.

I read yours last week and I’m definitely going to do but like you will not even consider doing a lip product one because that shit is crazy haha!

LOL!I remember when i discovered the You Tube beauty gurus especially the ones with my skin tone and skin type like Nikkie Tutorials..I had to have EVERYTHING she had!I swear i am going to die and there will be left a bunch of MAC lipsticks i have hardly used.
Now i am so over that having learned what really suits me.In fact i have unsubscribed from the most popular YouTubers. It seems now it’s all about throwing all the thousands of products the companies send them in one video.
Anyway that’s a whole different issue and to get to the point smaller categories would be the best way to go i believe!

I’d LOVE to see a decluttering series on your blog! There’s something so oddly satisfying about seeing people get rid of their unloved makeup and I’m even enjoying them a lot more than hauls now. I really love that the beauty community is taking a more mindful approach to consumerism because I mean, who really needs 15 foundations? I think us beauty bloggers are always going to own more than what’s considered “normal”, but I think we’ve all reached a point where we know what we like and what suits us, so there’s just no point in keeping anything else around. I think definitely split it up into different categories over a few blog posts because that way you can go a little more in-depth about why you’re keeping certain products vs. why you’re not. Plus, the more posts, the better!

Thanks Tenneil! I think that’s the way I’m going to go about it. I’m excited to declutter and just move things on that I don’t love and use. IT’s crazy to have so many things that don’t get used.
