You guys all know by now my favourite lipstick brand is Shanghai Suzy. I wear it almost exclusively with a few random MAC and other brands but really for the price I think that there is nothing that compares. The latest winter collection boats a new finish and 8 new shades that I just know you guys are going to love.
For those who aren’t aware Shanghai Suzy is a local Melbourne brand that is vegan, cruelty-free and made locally as well (yay!). All of the 8 lipsticks included in this collection are the finish ‘Satin Luxe’ a new formula for the brand. It’s infused with avocado oil, jojoba seed oil, shea butter and claim to feel balm like on the lips. All obviously have a satin finish as the name suggestions. They all have a delicious strawberry scent which I absolutely love!
In terms of packaging the brand has drifted through a number of different bullets however this range is in the sleek ‘pop up’ packaging and it has to be my favourite option because it is smaller than the tubes we’ve seen in the past. The lipsticks also now come in a cardboard box meaning they’re presented a little more fancy and I do appreciate that aspect! The one gripe I have with the packaging is that there is no colour on the tubes top or bottom – for a lipstick lover like me it does make finding the particular shade you’re after difficult because unless you know the shade name you physically have to open each tube to see what the colour is. It’s a minor issue but it’s a detail I now appreciate from the past collections more!
Champagne Diamond, Smokey Topaz, Moonstone, Rose Quartz, Crystal, Jewel, Pink Sapphire, Garnet
Champagne Diamond is exactly as described – a soft and semi-sheer champagne with tiny shimmer that reflect the light. This is not a shade I would typically wear alone I think it’s something that is handy to have for a layering option. I particularly love it layered with a soft pink nude and then this in the middle to add some dimension.
Smokey Topaz is up there for me in terms of picking favourites from this collection! It’s an amazing warm pewter shade that I really like because it’s something unique. It’s in the realm of that 90’s nude lip that I still love.
Moonstone reminds me of a nude lipstick that I loved from a previous collection but with more grey undertones which I find a little more flattering than just a straight taupe. Another great everyday shade!
Rose Quartz can be built up for an intense peach or wore sheer as more of an everyday neutral. It’s the surprise shade from a winter collection but I think it’s a fun addition! I have only applied the one layer (same with all the lipsticks) and I love the colour pay off it has.
Crystal is one I think alot of people are going to be totally smitten with because it’s a gorgeous natural, warm pink and I think it’ll suit a whole array of people. I absolutely love how it pulls almost terracotta on my lips because I have quite a bit of pigment in my natural lip colour.
Jewel for me, is the showstopper this collection! It’s described as a magenta pink but I just LOVE this colour. It’s my everyday kinda shade that is just the perfect balance between ‘oh hey i’m wearing a lipstick’ and ‘oh hey don’t want you to comment on it’ you know what I mean? It’s INCREDIBLE!
Pink Sapphire could possibly be the most fun pink ever! It’s blue based, holy white teeth, and is so vibrant on the lips. For me, it’s not a colour I go for often but if you’re a pink lover you’ll most likely be obsessed with this shade.
Garnet is my kinda colour because you all know I love a dark maroon colour. I really love how this can be worn a little more sheery or built up for an intense look! I don’t really have another lipstick in this shade that has the ability to look even and great both ways.
Overall another really fab collection from Shanghai Suzy and with the addition of the new finish I’m slightly obsessed with the fresh take on the finishes. For winter I think the moisturising finish is a great choice and I appreciate how this lipsticks can be worn sheer or built up for a more intense look. These are different to other Shanghai Suzy lipsticks – the matte ones are so pigmented and punchy whereas these offer a more buildable formulation so keep that in mind! I think the shade selection really suits the finish though with a great variation of everyday shades with a few brights thrown into the mix. As I said my only gripe with this collection is not being able to identify what lipstick colour it is from the outside packaging.
For colour picks I’ve have to say Jewel is my stand out – amazing, Smokey Topaz and Garnet are also two of my favourites!
