Facial mists are something I’ve never really ‘gotten on’ with because I never really knew how to use them. Now I’ve been trying them out for the past year I thought I’d share the different ways to use them and product recommendations for you guys!
REFINE
Most people associate a toner or facial spray to do - refine, tighten and clear. The Dermalogica Clear Start Clearing All Over Toner is my top recommendation because it makes a difference without being drying or harsh on the skin. When I have minor problematic skin I use this over a spot treatment and it really helps to clear up any breakouts but also sooth because of the salicylic acid and argan oil combination. My top tip would be to look for a spritz that contains a combination of refining as well as soothing ingredients because if it’s all purifying it’ll most likely be harsh!
HYDRATE
I never really understood how a facial spray could be hydrating and I still don’t really… BUT I find the Avene Eau Thermale one of my most loved and most repurchased products because it’s just so good! I use it as a refresher in the summer but also as an in-between spritz when doing my night time routine. I find it just adds something really refreshing and hydrating making my skin soften. I don’t think it’s a step you need to do but it does make a difference. If you’re looking for something a little more hydrating look for a spray that is infused with Hyaluronic Acid and oils like the Skinstitut Multi-Active Mist. I find this a must-have for the mornings to brighten, hydrate and make my skin that little bit more plump and awake before make up application.
CALM & SOOTHE
If you have sensitive skin a soothing mist is something that you should have stored away ‘just in case’. I don’t have overly sensitive skin but I still have a Dermalogica Ultracalming Mist in my stash because it’s such a beautiful product. Infused with aloe, oat and ginger if you ever have even the slightest bit of redness, burning, rash or any sort of irritation on the face it helps calm and soothe. I use this every time I do a face mask just to tell my skin ‘hey it’s okay I got you’.

I’ve only tried the Avene spray but I haven’t used it often enough to see it doing anything to my skin but it feels nice using it. The Skinstitut one sounds nice!

Such an amazing brand Kat! You should try their moisturisers xx
I have a Dermalogica UltraCalming Mist that’s just been sitting on my shelf unused, probably because I didn’t know how/when to use it. I’ll open it up after reading this! And good to know I’m not the only one who found mists confusing lol.

Ooooo I must check that one out!!!
I actually haven’t been using my Avene spray all that much in the summer time, though you’re right it would be a really refreshing step to my routine. I tend to save it for when my skin gets really dry and dehydrated in winter time, then I just go crazy spraying it all over my face for some much needed hydration.
