TIPS FOR PUTTING TOGETHER YOUR AW16 WARDROBE

When the seasons change so do our wardrobes (DER) and it’s fast approaching that time of year where we switch bikinis for scarves and our favourite floaty dresses for big chunky knits. We’re not complaining! Here are some tricks for changing up your wardrobe at this time of year.

Clean out
When switching up your wardrobe between seasons it’s so important to make sure you’re getting rid of anything you’re not loving anymore or didn’t wear throughout the last winter. Be cut-throat and don’t keep anything you’re unsure of because chances are you won’t wear it (again). If you’re getting rid of a grey knit because it’s unflattering make a mental note to try a different cut next time you’re purchasing. Never keep anything you’re not in love with.

Layer up
Don’t instantly put your favourite white tee into storage because chances are it’ll be handy for layering - especially in the autumn! Make sure you think things through when putting things into storage because it could create another awesome outfit for you.

Write a list
I find writing a list of things that I NEED to feel gaps in my wardrobe so uber helpful when it comes to avoiding purchases that I don’t need. For instance the key pieces I need to purchase at the moment are flat black boots, a white and black tee, long sleeve basic tops for layering that aren’t thermals, a black shirt dress and 2-3 tops appropriate for work. The more specific you are the better because then you have a clear idea of the things you’re looking for when shopping.

Purchase selectively
This point ties into the above but be selective with your purchases. Make sure you’re filling a gap in your wardrobe and that it all works together to avoid neglecting new pieces. Ask yourself what you’ll wear that particular piece with, if it’s something you need and whether or not you think it’s flattering on you (seriously I’m guilty of buying pieces for when I lose weight…. Tell me I’m not the only one!).

Invest in key items
Choose a few items you will invest in because they’ll last you so much longer. For me I’ll be investing in 1 pair of black boots and I’ve already bought some fantastic quality knits that’ll last me forever. Whether it’s a leather jacket or a great pair of jeans make sure it’s something you’ll wear again and again rather than a trendy item you’ll hate next season.

Try combinations on & take a pic!
When you bring home a new item, or just have some spare time, try on some different outfit combinations and then take pics of your favourites. It’ll help you avoid days where you have nothing to wear.
