I know I used to do really comprehensive reviews on most new releases onto the Australian market each month. To be honest it got the point where it was really overwhelming to be trialling so many products to get those posts out PLUS I’m trying to keep my beauty stash really minimal now I’ve decluttered.
I’ve decided to take this series in a slightly different direction by sharing with you a small edit of products I’ve introduced to my routine that are new to me not necessarily a new release onto the market. It’s comfier for me, less stressful and you’ll get more details so I hope y’all enjoy it regardless.
Matrix Total Results Brass Off Shampoo*
Being a blondie it can be hard to sort out what is and isn’t the best blonde shampoos. Some purple shampoos just don’t seem to make any difference. What I appreciate about this newbie from Matrix is the way it really does give your hair a tone but it also doesn’t dry out your hair to the extent of other offerings on the market. This particular one is designed to neutralise brass tones and I’ve also got one that is designed to neutralise yellow tones. I found the results very comparable however this one can also be used in brunettes as well which is why I’ve mentioned this one. Highly recommend it as a good quality, toning shampoo.
Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water in Oil*
I see so many people raving about this make up remover and I’m a huge fan of the original formulation so I thought for sure this product would be for me. I found that even when shaken it takes a fair amount of time to get the oil to mix in with the rest of the solution and even then I don’t find it removes eye make up that well. It also leave that residue on the skin which is fine if you plan on showering straight away however how I use micellar waters is for make up removing before the gym or as soon as I get home. I can see why people would enjoy it if they’re using it right before a shower and don’t wear heavier eye make up but for me and my lifestyle it just didn’t work out.
Rimmel Brow This Way Soft Powder*
A new release onto the market is this bad boy from Rimmel. It’s their Soft Powder from the Brow This Way line that is meant to act as a quick ‘line, define and fill’. It is a messy product! As soon as you pull the applicator out the soft brow powder goes flying everywhere. The applicator is small and precise however I found that the actually powder doesn’t stick to the brush as evenly as I would like meaning that unless you’re constantly brushing through your brows it can leave them looking really uneven. I can see where they were going with this and I do want to like it but I have other methods I much prefer to this powder.
Benefit Dandelion Dew*
Dandelion blush from Benefit is one of my favourite blushes of all time. It’s beautiful! When this liquid version came through in the mail I was so excited to try. It does take some getting used too because the formulation is quite pigmented and is a liquid so it’s a totally different ball game. I find using a dotting it onto the cheek then using a beauty blender type sponge the best way to get even, natural colour in the cheeks. I love it though! It’s completely unique and gives a more natural finish compared to a powder once you’ve got your head around the application. I would actually love to see if they a highlighter in this formulation too!
Smith & Cult Polishes*
I have been getting back into painting my nails at home after brief stint of having in salon treatments. There are so many people who rave about Smith & Cult polishes so I was super keen to try this deep green called Darjeeling Darling. The Whole super big and bulky top makes it a little difficult when applying however in two coats the colour was completely even, flossy and actually looked like a shellac polish. For wear I’ve found they last 5 days with minimal tip wear but as always I use my fave Sally Hansen Top Coat. I would definitely try more of these in the future!
