DETOXING WITH DIETLICIOUS

detoxing-with-dietliciousWhen I hear the word ‘diet’ I cringe. I do not believe in diets. I believe in a healthy lifestyle and diet sounds not only restricting but scary. I’m sure you can imagine when Dietlicious got in touch with me about trying their plans I wasn’t sure but very curious. Here is how I went with the 5 Day Vegetarian Detox Plan.

I eat relatively healthy normally however I decided to try the detox plan as it’s coming up to Christmas where I know I’ll be eating stupidly in the next few weeks. The detox plans are all designed to rebalance and revitalise your body giving your system break from any sort of preservatives, additives, processed foods, wheat, gluten, dairy and red meat. Sounds like you’ll be gnawing your arm off by day one doesn’t it? But trust me you won’t! It is also recommended that you don’t have caffeine, non herbal tea, alcohol or tobacco during the cleanse and also exercise moderately whilst doing the detox.

First off I want to make it clear that I do not stick to the ‘plan’ right down too a tee. Why? Because that’s completely unrealistic for my lifestyle and brain. My brain seems to hear the words ‘you can’t have this’ and go crazy. I just don’t deal well with being restricted so when I accepted the plan I never put the pressure on myself to feel like that’s all I had to eat for the whole five days. In saying that I did do three days of the cleanse pretty much down to a tee and I did finish almost all the food included so I feel as though I can adequately review the service for you.

Dietlicious delivers right to your door almost any day of the week depending on where you live. I decided on the 5 Day Vegetarian Detox plan, no I’m not strictly vegetarian but I do prefer vegetarian meals, and it came all neatly packed in a big box filled with ice. As suggested I left the first 3 days of bags out and froze the rest. It’s worth noting that Dietlicious does not include fresh fruit or fresh salads that you will need in order to stick to the plan so you’ll end up grabbing a few basics to compliment the plan.

Day 1-3 was a roaring success! I absolutely loved the smoothie (pictured above) and all the other meals too. I kept thinking ‘gee this detox thing isn’t too bad’ because every meal was filling and I never felt like I needed to eat afterwards. It then came to the weekend and I didn’t continue with the cleanse due to family events etc. I knew that was going to happen so in the future I would aim to start on a Monday, that way I could do it throughout the week…. That would be much more manageable for me personally.

I found all the food pretty tasty, there was only two smoothies I didn’t enjoy and the tofu meals just weren’t flavourful enough for me. I expected that though, especially from a plan where you’re going to be freezing/defrosting frequently. I have to say overall I was impressed with the quality of the meals and how yummy they were. I mean most didn’t look instagram-able by the time you defrosted and plonked them out on your plate but the flavours were great. The portions sizes were not what I expected from a ‘detox’ plan (thank god) everything is filling and you’re never left starving.

Dietlicious has impressed me with the yummy food they provided. Sticking to a strict plan isn’t for me however I did discover a few new meals I’d like to recreate at home and I would consider purchasing some just to have handy in the freezer. As with all meal plans there will be a few things you won’t enjoy, don’t go into it thinking that you’re going to love every single thing because you won’t. In the future I would love to see Dietlicous bring out some sort of customisable plan for those who have done one of their plans before. I would love to do the detox again however I would love the option of throwing in more of some things over those few bits I didn’t like.

Overall it was an interesting experience and one I would recommend. It’s definitely best suited to those of us that are time poor but still want to eat well. There are a range of plans available so if detoxing isn’t your thing check out the other opts over on the website.

  • I’ve been wanting to do a bit of a detox, and I love the fact there is a vegetarian pack. I’ve done other detoxes before but the portion sizes are always so small and I end up caving (0 self control haha). How did you go in terms of energy levels? X

  • It sounds pretty good, I know a lot of other “detox/diet” meal things from the supermarket taste disgusting. Haha “plonked out on the plate” that is EXACTLY what frozen meals are like! xD
