THE LAZY GIRLS GUIDE TO HYDRATED SKIN

the-lazy-girls-guide-to-hydrated-skin

There are always times where you just can’t be f-d to put on your moisturiser before you crawl under the covers. We’ve all been there. In the morning you wake up in a world of regret when you’re trying to apply make up onto a dry, crusty face (#bloggerskeepingitreal). Here are some ace products and tips for keeping your skin hydrated without a 4,000 step routine.

THINK GEL BASED
This goes for your moisturisers for day and night. I find gel-based products are more easily absorbed by the skin and just instantly inject a good whack of hydration into the complexion. I love the Skinsitut Moisture Defence for Normal Skin but they do a bunch of awesome gel-based moisturising products that are the best. A little goes a long way so they’re so cost effective too!

DON’T BE SCARED TO LEAVE THINGS ON
Break the rules and leave that hydrating mask on all night… Or try leaving it on for say an hour before tissuing it off (which you can do in bed) if you’re a little scared. I love doing this with the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Mask and the L’Occitane Immortale Eye Care & Mask Duo for the ultimate plumped up skin in the morning. Before you freak out and think that I look like a crazy lady going to bed with a face mask on both of these are transparent and absorb into the skin in 5-10 minutes, when using as a 10 minute mask you just tissue off the excess, so don’t worry your BF or cat won’t do a double take when you walk into the room. I do this treatment duo 2-3 times a week and I’m always impressed with the results when I wake up.

USE AN OIL
Every skin type can benefit from using a facial oil and they’re amazing at keeping your skin in check. Some people choose to use them in conjunction with other products but I’ve found slathering my skin with an oil 1-2 times a week is an awesome option. I always sit and read in bed for 1/2 hour before laying on my pillow to minimise any oil stain but it’s so worth it because it really gives the skin a boost and it’s so easy! The Medik8 Glow Oil is my favourite at the moment before it’s intensely moisturising but also works to help reduce pigmentation and bright the complexion.

ADD A BOOSTER
If you’re wanting to keep your routine super simple then use your day moisturiser but add a skin boosting serum like the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster. Up until 2-3 years ago I used the same products at night that I did in the day just mixing an oil in at night. It’s a great tip for anyone who travels alot or just doesn’t want to overcomplicate things. It has all those delicious hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and pantheonal to help the skin easily absorb the product but also restore moisture levels. It’s seriously amazing stuff.

I love wearing night face masks too! Have you tried the ones from Sephora? They are so fantastic and feel amazing on the skin. I did those while travelling and I always woke up feeling (and hopefully looking) more refreshed. Great tips Sarah!

    • It’s funny you ask that because I totally had 3 of them in my hand at Sephora to buy but the line to checkout was INSANE like 30 minute wait so I didn’t buy anything hahaha

  • I just received the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster this week, I can’t wait to give it a try :)

  • This is definitely the post I needed to read right now, as the heating in my apartment building is just drying my face so, so much.

    • Ooo what are you using now? Sounds like you’ve moved away from Dermalogica?

      • I use a variety of brands - Oskia, Sarah Chapman, Omorovicza, Aurelia, Pixi & more! I love Dermalogica though & used their products exclusively in the months leading up to my wedding. Will definitely buy some of the products again in the future xx

I haven’t tried any of these products but you’ve touched on some great tips here. One of my favourite ways to keep my skin hydrated is to swap to a nice gel-based cleanser.

    • What is your fave cleanser? I’m on the hunt for a new one!

      • The Sunday Mode

I’m currently swapping between the Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser when I’m oily and the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing gel when my skin needs more hydration- two products at opposite ends of the spectrum!

  • Great tips Sarah, I know I have mentioned it before but I also love the Skinsitut moisturser it just seems to sink into my skin so well and not leave me feeling greasy such a great product! I have just changed up my routine a bit this month to add serums into it to see if this will help out and add that bit extra to my skin. I also love wearing a sleeping mask like the DR Jart+ Sleeping mask I always wake up in the morning with my skin feeling so refreshed and plump.

  • Hahah you had me at don’t be scared to leave things on. Whenever a mask says 15-20 minutes, if it’s on my skin any longer my boyfriend freaks out thinking it’s going to be horrific for my skin! Most of the time is a Manuka Honey Calming Mask so i’m like woah relax x
