TOP 5 SKINCARE DISCOVERIES OF 2016

top-5-skincare-products-from-2016

Kicking off this years 2016 discovery series is SKINCARE! If you’re new around here this series is where I share my top products from the particular category and why they are so gosh-darn amazing. A tonne of my 2015 faves are still around having been repurchased and all that jazz but for the purpose of not boring you guys these are the NEW product (to me) for 2016 that rocked my world!

Dermalogica Clear Start Pore Control Scrub
I went off manual scrubs for a few years and relied heavily on chemical exfoliators to keep my skin in check (because how many skin peeps tell you too avoid the manual options) but now there just isn’t anything the gets my skin like a manual exfoliator. I’ve been a huge fan of Dermalogica scrubs in the past but this one is especially good for combination/oily skin because it has a clay base. Before you freak it out it’s nothing to harsh or intense on the skin and it’s the perfect balance of being scrubby but not overly abrasive – win!

Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque
This was a new release release earlier this year and I wasn’t overly excited about this particular product from the line up because I didn’t think that it would actually do anything for me. Luckily I’m a trooper and I gave it a whirl then next thing I know I’m in love with this stuff. Application is messy and it’s not the best smelling mask in the world BUT it does wonders for brightening, exfoliating and evening out the skins texture and pigment. It sounds like a big of a basic mask but it really does make a huge difference too the skin… Promise.

Medik8 Hydra8 Night Eye
I’m just going to come out and say it – I’m an eye cream snob. You all know I’ve loved the Benefit, Jurlique and heck even the Sisley ones in the past but there is something about the formulation of this one that won me over. It’s so thick, hydrating and brightening under the eye but the way it absorbs is dreamy. Once applied it absorbs quickly and is completely undetectable on the skin. It may seem excessive to some, I’m 22 and using a retinol based eye cream, but hey if it prevents fine lines I’m all for it and so far so good.

Medik8 Glow Oil
As I’m writing this (in November, cray cray I know) we haven’t really had any warm weather because apparently Victoria missed the memo about Spring time this year. Therefore my skin has been dry, flaky in those annoying areas like around my eyebrows, nose and mouth. This oil has been slathered onto my skin every second night for the best part of this year and it’s the lazy gals best friend for beating dry patches. This literally will clear them up over night and leave my skin feeling so plump and hydrated.

Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate
Even though I’m back on the manual exfoliation train there is no denying that chemical exfoliators still have a firm place in my heart. Not only do they work quickly they are so easy to use! This Kiehl’s offering released this year and it’s been my best friend because it’s gentle but you still get that overnight result. I pull this out whenever I have a breakout and it helps speed the healing process up and then fade the scars quicker then without it.

  • I’ve tried 0 of these Sarah haha! I feel like the Kiehl’s peel would be so good for me! My skin has breakouts what seems like 99.99% of the time and I’d love to use anything to help speed up recovery + scars x

    • You would love the peel! xxx

  • I’m with you, I much prefer manual exfoliation! I LOVE that scrubby feeling and I love how my skin feels afterwards. I went off them too because everyone seemed to be saying they were bad. I actually went off a lot of skincare in general last year and opted for just soap and then a DIY cleanser. I even tried to go natural for my hair products. BUT I’ve decided to call it quits with trying to go natural because in all honesty it had me feeling not so amazing. I’ve started using skincare products again and hair care products again and I’m sorry to all those greenies out there but I’m not going natural again any time soon! :P

    • There is nothing that compares to that feeling right?! Ugh I’ve tried the natural thing too and it’s such a fuck around making the cleansers/masks etc then storing them with not amazing results. I wish I had the patience for it though!

  • Ooh, lovely products! Those two Kiehl’s ones sound amazing and right up my alley! You’re right though, I went from phases of physical exfoliation to chemical, but the right balance of both gives the best results!

    • Kiehl’s skincare really rock!

  • Ohhh I haven’t tried these ones. I think I’ve tried the Dermologica Clean Start Day & Night treatments which I liked a lot. I’m currently using their gentle exfoliating cleanser with a face brush. I got some The Body Shop masks for Chrissie which I’m super excited to try!

    • I LOVE the body shop masks!!! They’re so good

  • Yay for manual exfoliators! I know they’re not meant to be good (especially for sensitive skin like mine), but I’ve found that they WORK at least, in comparison with powder exfoliants. I think manual exfoliators have a bad reputation because either the product is too rough for skin or (my personal theory) people get too rough with their skin when using them. I think they have their place in the skincare world, but maybe a combo of manual & chemical is best?

    • I can see where you’re coming from and I agree that they do have a bad reputation because they’re too harsh. I find a balance works well for me personally but having combination/blackhead prone skin I can exfoliate enough xD

  • Kate Flint

I succumb to manual exfoliators too, they just feel so good! I try not to use them when I have active breakouts at the very least. Also that Kiehls mask sounds amazing! Great post Sarah :)

    • You have to try the Kiehls mask Kate! I know you’ll love it :)

  • I keep seeing you mention that Kiehls mask! It’s definitely on my wishlist now, I love masks that exfoliate! Those Medik8 bits sound amazing too, Glow Oil just sounds like my kind of thing…

    • It’s amazing! And so is the Glow Oil hehe x

  • kiehls just is the best skincare brand in my opinion and its works best for my skin which is why i never really switch up my routine. midnight recovery is just the best.
