Now it’s well and truly winter I feel like it’s a time where we all get into a bit of a rut. Instead of having fun with fashion we get into a routine of wearing the same things over because… Warmth and comfort. Here are a few tips for shaking things up!
Buy items that can be worn lots of different ways
If you spotted my post on getting the most out of your wardrobe I’m a huge advocate for buying items that you can wear a multitude of ways. This Firefall Knit Dress for instance I’d happily wear like I am above as a dress but also as a long tunic top over jeans! When looking at an item to purchase it’s always so important to have an idea of at least 2 ways you can style it straight away. Why? It means instantly you have two outfits ready to go and an idea of how it’ll slot into your wardrobe before even getting it home meaning it’ll minimise pieces that sit in your wardrobe unworn.
Look for a point of difference
I’m a sucker for a statement piece but at the same time buying a grey jumper (like the above) with something slightly different about it can really refresh your wardrobe. You see it everywhere at the moment – white shirts with different tie details, jackets with embroidery or even shoes with a quirky detail. Finding items that fit your personal style and then have that little quirk are really the best pieces!
Spend an afternoon styling your current wardrobe
My biggest tip and the most important! Even having a friend over to help do this makes the biggest difference. Don’t be fooled by the ‘I don’t have anything to wear’ tantrum you throw everyday. Lay out some pieces that aren’t getting as much love and go to town with trying it on with different pieces you wouldn’t grab for when you’re rushing. Take a photo of the outfits you do like and create a folder on your phone (I know there are apps for this but I personally haven’t tried any) so that when you’re totally stuck you can have a flick through and be inspired by pieces you already own.
What are your tips for refreshing your wardrobe?
