It’s been a little while since I’ve done a book post and I’ve managed to smash through a few book recently which I’m so excited about.

Sour Heart by Jenny Zhang
I read about a 1/3 of this book and just could not get into it. I’m not sure why. I found there little to no connection with the characters and no flow. It floated between being a really heart-breaking story about immigrants doing it tough and being a sarcastic read which was hard for because I didn’t know about to feel about certain chapters. I ended up giving up because I wasn’t ‘into’ it enough.

Seven Steps to Happiness by Stella Newman
I had no expectations of this book, in fact I’d never heard of it before, but it essentially follows the friendship of Juliet and Lenny both who face hardship. I don’t think this book is an overly complicated read and it did take me until about half way to be excited about reading it. The way the characters are developed throughout means you really feel a connection with their situations. The last 100 pages were my favourite part because there was a lot of passion coming through with all the characters and a sense of happiness I guess you could say. Overall, I really enjoyed it for a Sunday afternoon read.

Bad Romance by Emily Hill
I have to be honest this was another book I didn’t finish but not because I didn’t love it! First of all this book is a collection of short stories and I am 3/4 of the way through, thoroughly enjoying it, however I decided I was craving something with more flow and narrative. I did really love the different perspectives on love, crazy stories and non-happy endings the different characters experience. It’s refreshing to read a book that has a different take on love. I will revisit and finish but just not right now.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
Ok don’t judge me BUT I have not read Eat, Pray, Love although I have always loved Elizabeth Gilbert when she pops up on my feed or in interviews online. I’ve been in a bit of rut with my blog over the past year and everyone kept praising this book so obviously I have to pic it up and see what all the fuss was about. I will say this self-helpy kind of a book isn’t really the type of thing I enjoy at all however seriously this is one of THE BEST books I have read. I kept saying ‘yes!’ when I read throughout her different thoughts on ideas, curiousity and creavitity. It was a super quick read but one I got alot out of because it came at such a great time.
