As an online creative sometimes it’s easy to feel as though you’re going around in circles. You come up with a unique idea and then you see it slowly pop up everywhere… It can be disheartening and make you feel pretty low. Here are some tips for getting over the feeling of being copied online.

Remember it’s flattering
As cliche as it sounds remembering that it is flattering that someone has seen your work and loved it enough to mimic it is pretty darn nice. It just means your work is so good someone else has taken inspiration from you.

Someone else has probably done it before you
It really is a circle. Don’t get cocky thinking you’ve come up with something. The internet is a huge place and chances are someone has done something similar to what you’ve created in the past!

You still have YOU
Whether it’s a simple post idea or a whole website cropping up that’s similar to your own it’s important to remember that they are missing one thing.. YOU. No matter what you’ll still have your authentic voice and style so nobody can copy you 100%

What are your top tips for overcoming that feeling of being copied?

You made some really good points in this, I think it can be hard with the internet sometimes because you think you’ve come up with an original idea but there’s just so much content out there that often as you said, it’s been done before!

I know. I don’t think it’s something to feel shitty about… Move on and continue creating things YOU love – that’s all that matters :)

Great and super relevant post. I’ve seen lots of people complain about being copied lately and although I know it can be super annoying, it is bound to happen and I definitely try to take it as a compliment when it happens. <3

Exactly. I think it’s important to just move on and be proud of what YOU do. I got really down about something that happened this year but I figured there isn’t any point! I’m happy with what I’m doing and that’s all that matters x

Good tips. A lot of times I find that I write up a blog post, work super hard on it and then two minutes before my post is scheduled to go up, someone else has posted the same thing. Thing is I haven’t copied them and they haven’t copied me, but sometimes I worry the person just before me thinks I copied them (even though it would have taken me hours to create the actual content.) So there’s that, too! xx
