Lately I’ve been getting tonnes of questions about blogging so I’ve consolidated them all into one handy post. Let me know if you have any others in the comments and I’ll make sure to answer them there.
Who takes my photos?
The most asked question funnily enough! I’ve very fortunate that Isaac (my partner) has grown to love shooting photos for me. At the beginning we were both totally unsure and we’ve had to learn on the go but we’ve come a long way. I would love to be able to afford a photographer however it’s just really not something I can right now.
The situation isn’t ideal because it does take away from our down time either after work or on weekends but it’s just what we’ve got to do for now. So Isaac is always the one taking snaps where I’m in it! Mystery solved.
When do we fit it in?
We shoot in bulk on Sunday’s or after work in the summer – when it’s lighter after 5:30pm. Winter has been tough between weather and then light limitations we’ve found it super hard to fit it in. During December last year where we did the daily style challenge we were shooting daily and it was actually really stressful because I’m (and neither is Isaac) not always in the mood to take an outfit photo. I wear my emotions on my face sooooo if I’m unhappy to generally does translate in photos. It’s what works with us! Isaac works full time and I generally work 3-4 days a week so shooting in bulk takes the strain off.
Do I wear the things I share?
Someone actually asked me this and it made me laugh. Of course I do! I wear every single outfit again but I don’t always share an outfit repeat because well that’d get boring after a while (obvs you see my basics over and over though). Generally I receive or buy an item and I’ll style it for work or the weekend then I’ll be like yes I want to shoot it this way. The things I share are just what I wear on the daily shot on the weekend.
How do you say “no”?
When it comes to blogging I say no to alot more than I say yes too. It comes down to whether or not I believe in the campaign or product and also if I took away the payment/freebie would I be interested or purchase with my own money. That is how I approach every offer and if the answer is no then I write back and explain that. I don’t think it’s fair to not be honest to your audience or brands you work with. Most brands appreciate the honest reply.
What influences/inspires your personal style?
Other bloggers definitely because it’s like a curation of ace street wear. I always go through the campaign images from brands – I don’t know if thats weird – but I love looking through lookbooks and seeing how they are styling things. Mainly I would say scrolling through online stores, blogs and lookbooks but there is also an element of my style from my past. What I mean when I say that is that I was the biggest emo in high school so I would say adding ‘edge’ to my outfits is definitely inspired by that!
What is your must have wardrobe item?
Denim. I just can’t get enough of denim! I think finding a cut you feel confident and great in is key. I love experimenting with different shapes and I honestly don’t know what I would without denim in my wardrobe as it’s the basis of alot of my looks. Ooooo can I cheat and also say boots? I could not live without my ankle boots collection!
How do you manage your time!?! And keep everything on track!?!
I’m very fortunate to work on my blog 2 days and work my other job 3-4 days a week so I’m able to block out those two days to do blog things. I think fitting it in around work is tricky and you can feel burnt out really easily especially if you’re biting off an unrealistic amount of work (I’m guilty!). To be honest I don’t keep everything on track and shit does get messy so I think it’s all about doing the best you can.
When I am home I find blocking my whole day out really helpful to keep me in check so I’ll write out 7:30-8am emails etc etc for the whole day. Let me know if you’d like me to show a bit more of behind the scenes of that on my Insta-stories and I can defs do that.
How far in advance do you plan blog posts?
At the beginning of each month I write a rough outline of posts I would like to do or series that I always do into a calendar. Things chops and changes but I then know how many post ideas I need to come up with within that month so I find it really helpful. I generally write a week in advance because anything more then that I find too hard for keeping things relevant and current.
What would you suggest for someone who wants to start blogging?
So cliche but do it because you love it not because you want to make a career out of it. I’ve been blogging part time for a long time and it’s hard slog! It’s not as glamorous as what people make it out to be.
